Forget laser, mount it high as possible. If it picks up laser you are done. RD do not do well with LIDAR. There a slim chance you will get scatter, but never count on it. Only way to deal with Lidar is parking sensors.
Above the rear view mirror, one side or the other (I prefer driver side) of mirror mount post up near headliner if the window tint is just colored and not metallic. Run a hard-wire from keyed on/off fuse (like radio fuse that is not powered when starter is engaged) around windshield side post, tuck in headliner over to rear view. This keeps it high for good radar detection, forget laser-get a LI or something for that, keeps it somewhat hidden and no visible cords, headliner/roof will help keep it shaded from the sun, RD at eye level or easy up glance, and speaker is closer to ear to hear alert in case your "rockin' out the tunage".
That's how I do it at least. If you use a Phone extension wire for hard-wire be sure to check polarity, the plugs can switch polarity from end to end. Use one with a solid or multi stranded wire not the cheap fibered wire ones.
As long as the unit is pointed straight and level (maybe a degree upward or two is ok). It is like pissing in the wind, your going to get wet no matter what, still going to detect whatever in general terms. Low for lidar and high for radar, but not in every case. The headlight covers on my auto reflects laser up across the roof line, so I have the V1 above the RVM. Knowing when hit with anything is nice for you don't want to continue at the same speed, put doubt in the Leo's display if possible called fast brakes for I have gotten free from traps. Also had the auto broken into in front of me so the RD was hid from the Memphis ****** who broke in, if I had a gun to protect myself, he would have no balls to play pool with. Plus the Leos cannot see it also, another plus to mount high. Figure out what works best for you.
Mount it high as possible.
Up above Rear View close to headliner. That will help shade the unit from sun, help keep it out of sight, close to eye level to see at quick glance, closer to ear in case your rockin the tuneage, and you can run hard-wire from fuse box up side post of windshield and tucked in headliner to keep it neat. Nothing worse than a darn coil cord hanging down the windshield and across the dash!
