Is using a RD in VA a misdemeanor?
Hi everyone,
I live in VA and just bought an Escort Redline, since that is supposed to be pretty invisible to radar detector detectors, and radar detectors are illegal in VA. I just read a post on another forum by some guy who got a ticket in VA for using a radar detector, and he says the summons says it is a misdemeanor. He posted that years ago so I don't really have any way of verifying with him... Can anyone here confirm that using a RD in VA would be a misdemeanor? If I understand correctly, that is something that would begin a "criminal record" and would have to be disclosed on future job applications. Is this all true? If so, I think I will unfortunately have to return my RD...
Thanks!

I don't believe it's a misdemeanor. Go ahead, and run it.

Na no misdemeanor. They may take your pretty detector and run it over a few times with their squad car though ! :D
only kidding. I believe they take it and right down the serial number and give it back to you is all and give you a pretty ticket in return.

I wish somebody with the necessary money would challenge this (and similar) laws in Federal court. Radar detectors are nothing more than radio devices operating on frequencies governed by the FCC under the Federal Communications Act of 1934. The states have no authority to regulate, limit or outlaw the use of these devices. But then again, given we live in a Fascist country where the Gestapo state spies on us constantly, and the first four amendments to the Constitution have been effectively suspended, I'm not surprised that states like VA get away with these kinds of laws.
