My unit is just under a year old and I just noticed the dial getting stiff when turning it off. On seems OK. Anyone seen this happen to theirs? I hate to give up the unit for weeks and spend the money on the mail etc. unless I really need to.

Just leave the dial on and unplug the cord (or add a switch if you have it hardwired) to turn it off. That way you don't have to keep finding your preferred volume level every time too.
Kpatz has a great idea. That's my biggest complaint about Escort. I think the dial is very poor quality.
Its a pot, right? Just add some dielectric grease.
I have had 2 break on me... :x
Maybe you've got some crud under the wheel or the retaining screw has loosened and the plastic wheel is rubbing against the case?Quote:

If the screw is loose, just retighten, add a drop of glue.
Once you get it fixed I would use Kpatz's idea...
I took the unit apart and found the screw holding the thumbwheel on was tight and not actually rubbing on the upper half of the case, but it is very close to hitting. When you shut it off, it actually goes past the click and you have to move it slightly back to get it to click. Not impressive for a well treated 11 mo. old unit!
If your X50 is under a year old, it is still under warranty, I'd take advatage of that while you have it. They'll do more than just clean the wheel, prob. replace the wheel.
I've never had any quality issues with any of Escorts products.
Unfortunately, the part of the thumbwheel that is broken is soldered onto the circuit board, so replacement is not trivial.
