What would happen if I took a small strong magnet to an old rd (one that is junk and not worth much)? How would the rd react to the magnet? Mk

Probably , or surely nothing.
Altough there is a relation to magnet in the microwave oven magnetron. The principle in the magnetron is that a high voltage current is trapped in a cavity and aligned thru the use of very strong magnetic field . I always recover 2 magnets from scrapped micro-wave , they a have a donut shape and bit smaller than a real donut
This high current is transformed to a around 1.2 gigahertz , same principle that turns a blow of air in a whislte into high pitch sound.
I do nothing with the magnets , just for the fun.... or hold some tools in the garage :P
Exactly what are you trying to do?
who knows. this is a really freaking weird questionOriginally Posted by davekr
I just wanted to see how the rd would react, that's all guys! Nothing bad! Mk
I didn't mean or care if you were. I was just like WTF? Thought maybe I was missing something. You really have to much time on your hands.Originally Posted by proudNMAmember

i think a magnet could cause it to lose calibration??? not sure at all though but i know many electronics dont like magnetic fields....
Wow davekr, are you ever in a good mood or what? :? BTW, I checked my old Roadrunner and Cobra rd w/ a magnet and when I was moving the magnet over top of them, IT DID MAKE EACH OF THEM FALSE. Then I tried it on my Bel 970 very quickly, and it did nothing. So there you have it davekr. Mk
