    Default CA Windshield Mounting?

I have a question reguarding winshield mounting for RD's in CA. I read a recent forum that very breifly said that in CA you can't have a RD mounted on the winshield at all!

    First, is this true?
    Second, is it enforced?
And lastly is it illegal to have a RD in CA (uncertain) :?

And if true where can you place it and still be effective?

All help will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

Radar detectors are legal in CA, except in commercial vehicles over 10,000 pounds or on military bases.

Whether or not they have a law prohibiting things being mounted to the windshield, I don't know.

Almost all states have the "items that disrupt view" law or rule, basically says that anything that doesn't come w/ the factory, that can block your view is illegal. Its not something that actually gets enforced, unless the cop is having a bad day, and you really pissed him off.

OK. I am feeling a lit bit better, but still weary as whether to or not to continue mounting it ( Bel PRO RX65) high and with the cord visible and dangling in plain view. But thank you for the input.

mount it high with a hardwire. That way you don't have to see the ugly power cord.

pretty much anything hanging below the rearview mirror line in Cali could give them cause to write you up.

technically the dangling cord could either get you a ticket, or not get you a break for something else.

i also agree, hardwire or get a small extension cord ( 4 wire phone cord and connector) and run it up and around the windshield.

then keep it mounted high and you'll be fine.

Here in NY we have EZ Pass, so if you have a similar automated toll collection system, why not mount it in the same position. The wires should probably go under the headliner and be hidden away...If you get a ticket you should be able to challenge it...

    http://www.afn.org/~afn09444/scanlaws/scanner5.html

This site states the laws for scanner and radar detector use in vehicles in all the states.

I believe hanging things from the windsheild is only illegal in Minnesota.
