What his the 'SAFE' speed in N-Y state to go on the highway?

Here in quebec we can go 118 km/H on the highway and be safe, no cops will ever stop u at this speed (on the highway) ...
but everytime i go in the us im afraid to go over 65 mph

    hey cool someone from Quebec

Yeah in NY they scare the **** out of me too. Here I have no worries driving 140 km/h or more (especially when the esquiew was on strike) but on I-87...

I hear a lot that 74 mi/h is safe in a 65 zone, but where the zone turns to 55 I would not exceed 60...

Now with an RD and laser jammer, perhaps you could drive 85 mi/h which is far more comfortable on a road like I-87 and have enough warning to slow down to 70.

One thing is for sure, if a police there sees you drive 80 mi/h they will nail you to a tree

When I am in Vermont or somewhere outside of NY state I drive like I like to 8)

Safe as in from a ticket? It really depends on the cop's mood, but usually somewhere between 5-10 mph over. Most of the Portland freeways out here you can travel 15 or 20 mph over and be safe, because the speed limits are so rediculously low. Where ever you go you'll be pretty safe traveling at the speed of traffic.

Safe as in accident wise? In a decent vehicle I'd say 95 mph or more for even a decent driver.

Nah I came pretty close to falling asleep several times running the speed limit on rural I-87. If I kicked it up to 90 I'd be much more alert but I couldn't for other reasons.

SmaartAasSaabr nice to know you from quebec too, im from LaPrairie near montreal

I dont know why but i fear the USA police... maybe im watching too much tv...

In quebec they do nothing, u can ride like you want on the highway, when i take the 40E , i can go easily 140 (when alone on the road, by night and im not reckless )without any trouble.

Yeah that what good when the esquew was in strike...
Have u ever had any trouble because of using a RD?

from my side.. always been ok with it.. and its always on, i dont think they really look for this kind of stuff... i dont know anybody else whois using one, it's not really popular , everyone thinks police always watch for them..

I regularly drive I-90 in western NY regularly and get away with 10 over. Sneaked by at 12-15 once, but I've seen them come out after ya at 11+ over (mph) pretty consistantly. They are big on instant on and laser, so be careful!

I haven't had any problems yet but I always turn it off when I suspect something or I am going to be stuck in traffic. I'm going to get one of the STi's in the near future however

The State Troopers are nuts in NY, they use Ka instant on very well, and laser. I've heard of people seeing them clock a car going in the opposite direction, and the Trooper just does a Dukes of Hazzard-style U-turn right in the grass and goes after them

Ah the 40... I like that road... some spots you can go 140... mi/h

Watch out if you go to Ottawa or Toronto from Mtl with the RD, I think the most Spectre patrols are on those routes... mostly on the Ontario side I think, their fine is cheaper anyway ($175 vs $611).
