    Default snooper detector internals

i was reading through the old posts and i saw a pic of some radio shack detector....... it looks the same as my snooper sd815i

the waveguide and laser diode is the same....... but i've never had a laser alert on my snooper...

i took the 2 screws out..... except the gunn diode one... because this was set and i knew if i messed with it i'd perminantly stuff the detector up!

the other 2 screws were screwed all the way in so i knew i couldnt do harm...

the result the detector didnt work!!

i tried this out before i come to the forum......

when i had no idea how they work! i've still just found out what a gunn diode is!!

Well apparently the LO on my satellite box leaks Ka band, and most television satellite run Ku band...

Ku Satellite(ExpressVu, Dishnet, DirecTV etc) is from 12.25 to 12.75 Ghz. In order to mix it down for receive, the LNB has a local oscillator that runs @ 11.3 GHz, which produces a harmonic in the Ka band (11.3 GHz x 3 = 33.9 GHz).

Some detector LOs run in the 11-12 GHz range, so there is definitely the potential for interference, similar to the RDs interfering with the VSATs (SmaartAasSaabr posted a document on this recently, that can also be found On Roy's Site)
