    Default For general purposes...

Hi, I'm new to the site. Recently my friend bought a radar detector at our local Radioshack. Now from what I've researched, it seems the one he bought was pretty inadequate. However, after reading as much as possible on this subject, I'm still unsure of exactly what type of combination of equipment I should use in my car. I've also been reading the real-life experiences here and also find that your anti-radar equipment can bring you some good times. I have a 2004 Infiniti g35 sedan. I don't commute on the highway regularly (only about three times a week do I find myself on the highway). However, I'm constantly on the roads around my town. There are a bunch of those great straightaways around my little area where one can test out the handling, speed, and performance of their vehicle. Also, I find myself a recreational (not dangerous) speeder. I've been lucky enough to aquire the attention of three officers in the past couple of months, and walked away with two 15mph over citations. Got lucky with one cop who seemed to be having a good day.

If an expert or two on here can recommend me what kind of equipment I need to avoid today's speed-enforcing LEOs, I'd be greatly appreciative. I planned on getting a radar detector as well as a scanner. Is this necessary? Thanks in advance.

(For info purposes, I live in the Stuart, FL area and am aware of the limitations of radar scanners in Florida.)

I believe that RDs are perfectly legal in florida... youre right most detectors sold at radio shack are inadequate... some are good (i.e. bel V995)

as a "recreational speeder" you might want a good one or you might opt for a top 3 unit (RX-65, X50, V1)... a scanner is not neccecary at all but it can help you from what ive heard, also if you know if they run Laser in your area you might look into a laser jammer and veil, and laser shield if your state requires that you have a front plate

Jammer wise if youve read around there is some ummm controversy over the performance of AL i tested one and it had no problems, but there is basically a war going on over this thing the same people bring it up and fight over it... good names are the Lidatek LE-30 (single or dual), Blinder M-20 and M-40, Escort ZR3, LPP and of course the AL........ price wise i think the M-20 and the ZR3 are the cheapest and you get pretty good performance depending on the gun used by the LEO

BTW what color is your G35?

oh yeah and anti radar... if you mean radar jammers, are outlawed by the FCC and their use is a federal offense

    Welcome to the Board!!

Here in Florida RDs and Laser Jammers are legal. Depending from the price range that you are looking for, you could go with a Whistler PRO 58 or 73 (no more than $150), V995 or V985 (for no more than $270) or you can go with the top three units like Arashi666 said, but that is if you don't mind spending $300+. If you don't really speed that much and you don't get on the highway as much I would recommend you the V995, has good features and it is a very good detector.

You can find these detectors at www.radarbusters.com (Roy)

Before someone says something there are many other units that are good in those price ranges I'm just recommending you the ones that i know more. Hope that this was helpful

    Black w/ gray leather.

What I meant by "anti-radar" was just the general category of radar protection devices including detectors, scanners, jammers, etc.

When discussing the legal issues in Florida, I was referring to the regulations on radar scanners. Here's a link to the FL Attorney General's rule on radar scanners:
    http://www.afn.org/~afn09444/scanlaw...r/opinion.html
Basically what that wall of text says is that radar scanners are perfectly fine if they don't rely on your car for power or use your vehicles antenna to boost recieving power.

Thanks for the help in narrowing down my decision and for the good-naturedness shown on this board.

alright... i was kinda confused there...

but since the G35 is black, should you encounter Laser, Veil/LS and a jammer should do you fine (the purpose of me asking incase you were wondering)

Bad information here. Lets try and make it right.

First, the term "radar scanner" is contributing to this. Think of two completely different things.

    #1 A radar detector

    and

    #2 A scanner radio

There's no law against using #1 in private automobiles vehicles in FL.

There's been laws against using #2 in automobiles in FL for a while. The post above makes reference to the OLD law. The new law passed last year doesn't care if it's connected to the car or not. Unless you are HAM or some other PS user, it's not allowed.

So use your radar detector, but keep that scanner out of the car.

    Ed
