    Default Dashboard mounting ok?

Is the performance decreased if you mount you detector on your dashboard--say on the front edge(not against the windshield). I thought velcro to the dash may cut down on the potential for a fall, as well as being less obvious to LEO's.

if its too low it does hinder performance against laser, because it blocked by the wipers, and a little radar is sacrificed, if you want it low, id get it on the suction cups, sitting as low as possible ON the windshield, that way it still gets a little above the wipers and it still more stealth than mounting mid-windshield, of course if you want real stealth, you hardwire it high, inside or just below your tint strip, as long as you have a jammer to compensate for the lack of laser reception

what about distance from windshield? Is there better performance right against the windshield, or is it ok to mount it closer to the driver for ease of operation/reach? I'd like to just mount it right on the dash, so long as it doesn't drastically decrease performance.

in all seriousness Laser is the only thing youre really sacrificing, Radar is almost the same as long as the unit isnt below the windshield line (eg, in cup holder, center console or something like that

Sounds good. Is there any advantage to having the antenna close to the windshield? Is there any way that the radar/laser signal gets refelcted/scattered by the windshield, and it's therefore better to have the detector as close as possible to make up for that? I hate sounding so ignorant, but, well, I am on this subject. :P

Well of course placing the detector further back in the car will reduce the range it gets by precisely the distance it has been moved back (eg a couple inches).

no not really that I know of you should be fine using a non-slp pad thingy, or velcro if you really want on the dash

Glad to have that option at least. So my theory of scatter/reflection of the radar or laseras it passed throught the windshield is bunked.

Smart is right. You can get some pretty good detection mounting it on the dash but....it really depends on the dash too. Some dashes in SUV's & Trucks are quite a bit higher than the low dashes that are wiper level.

On the dash will make a difference on radar detection.

Heres a test you can do....

To do this test go to a local supermarket that has automatic doors and sends a signal of X or K. Park in parking spot and hook up your detector, move the detector around with the horn facing the doors then turning it away. Move the detector high and low in the car. You will notice quite a difference. Now try it on the windshield, then the dash.

Now you should see how critical your mounting location is.
