Default Radar / Laser & Tint

I'm considering getting my windows tinted and would like some information on how it will affect my X50. I've also Posted a Picture of my install so you will see where my detector is located.

    1. The Tint shop stated that it's a metallic tint that doesn't fade over time.

    2. Does Darker tint affect it more so then Lighter tint ?

I'm a little concered about rear detection with a tinted back window.

Metallic tint infront of the X50 on the windsheild will significantly decerease its radar range.

AKA mounting the X50 behind metallic tint in any way will have a large impact onto the range inwhich you will pick up alerts.

Since the X50 doesnt have a rear (radar antenna), like the V1 the rear-window being tinted will not affect radar range (or almost unnoticeable amounts), since when getting shot from behind the X50 will rely on the radar wave bouncing off something infront of the car to reflect it back into the front antenna.

As for laser, mounting the X50 behind a tint strip will decrease its laser detection (metallic or not), and also if you tint the back window this will pose a problem for the rear-laser receptor... With that said: getting hit with LIDAR from the rear with the X50 (even with the V1) your pretty much toast simply because the profile on the rear-ends of cars, its not very often any RD will save you from a rear laser hit with no countermeasures back there (jammer).

I would go with a non metallic tint on the front window...just get it changed when it fades

I run metallic tint on the rest of my truck and never have a problem with radar reception!

testing by valentine research has found up to 95% reduction in sensitivity when metallic tints are used. Although some tints state they are metallic, sometimes are not.

Metallic tint on any window will affect any detector. rear antenna or not,

The benefit of a rear antenna is for triangulation, to locate the direction the radar is eminating from.

So, adding tint to the rear window will significantly reduce radar warning from the rear of your vehicle.

    (Somewhat) Incorrect.

Metallic tint on a rear window will not impact a single front facing antenna much... if it all.

The benefit of a rear antenna is for 'triangulation' as you say, to make the arrows possible, but it's also for (a much greater) rear sensativity.

Metallic tint on the rear window (and rear only) will not reduce the radar range(much if at all) on lets say an RX65 correctly mounted on the front windshield (behind no metallic tint). This is because the single front antenna relies on the radar wave (shot from the rear) going by the car... boucing off something infront of it, back to the front antenna... so a rear window with metallic tint will not significantly reduce radar range on a RD with a single forward (facing) antenna (thats not to say it wont reduce it somewhat, but in all odds it would be less noticeable, rather then extremely significant and noticeable).
