Default 5.3 miles of range with the bel 995 version 4.5 firmware

going from us1 on malabar rd going to I-95 is 5.5 miles to 95 from the us1 hiway.
so as i turn at 6am its a straight shot to 95 in sight but exactly 5.5 miles away and the signal kept getting stronger but it never lost thge signal during anytime and i though no way can it reach that far here in palm bay, fl but it did! it was an fhp using a straight dead on approach early where it drops to a 35 mph zone before entering hwy so he had the 34.7 unit that all the fhp seems to have that frquency gun.
i think that is incredible for me with the bel 995v picked up 34.7 so many miles away but with pop off and thats big here. when i went back a ways with my p[op on under same circumstances. i was notified almost a 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile less range on picking the signal of the 34.7 fhp up with pop engaged, i sufferred a well 30 percent range almost on the range at which my 995v picked the ka up vs. with the unit pop off workking 30 percent or morew farther and more constant.
ive been always a believer in using pop uintil i found out the significant range difference from pop on or pop off.
some say it doesnt matter, its only a hair difference., welll im telling from personal experience thati got 30 percent mre range on k and ka bands with pop off then with pop[ on. that summs that subject up as far as im concerned.
im just glad, only a handful of pop radar even exist in florida so yode have to be real unluck to get popped anyways. dr

sorry, but I don't believe it. Not that I don't believe you, just that I don't believe that it picked up that far...esp. it being Ka.

At the SML "long ranger" tests in past years, detectors have alerted to Ka at over 10 miles out. So it IS possible if there's line-of-sight.

Bel 995, Bel RX65, Escort 8500 X50, Valentine One can find Ka for more then 9 miles away. see radarbuster.com test or do a search for radar detector test. Most radar encounters are within a half mile. There are too many factors on how much detection you will receive. Terrain, weather, traffic, how straight the roadways or highways are, the direction of the radar antenna etc.

Please re-read your post for grammatical stuff next time... some parts are a little difficult to follow.

Also, um... you keep saying "30% less", "30% less", "30% less".... but you also say 1/4 to 1/2 mile less range. 30% of 5.5 miles is 1.65 miles. There's a big difference between 1/4 or 1/2 mile and 1.65 miles. 1/4 and 1/2 mile is equivalent to a 4.5 and 9% decrease in range, respectively... not 30%. I think that's a HUGE thing to point out w/this post, since 1/4 or 1/2 mile backs up the "slight decrease" in range that most people agree on... whereas 30% would indeed be a "significant decrease" in range.

Default thanks for backing me up

i have no reason to lie, and i understand how you wouldnt believe it as i have only seen ka band that far twice in my life. along this road toward i-95 theres a clear, flat line of sight where the driver can see the i-95 bridge 5 miles away. it was palm bay police and there he was as my ka bar graph went to 1 bar alert-but constantly. and as i got to about halfway, i got 3 bars or around there where i normally know its a cop by now, just couldnt figure ut where he was.(i though behind but i didnt see anyone) then it got stronger to full alert ad he was just sitting under bridge aiming straight down toward us1. i was very impressed and surprised.
i know this is not typical, i mean depending on the police strength on his radar ka unit, angle, line of site, all play into it but most times ill get the normal range on ka band with other cars on the road and lots of traffic, etc. it was early in the am and i think the signall wanted to keep going?
anyways, i not lying, just telling what happenned on one freak day with an experience. i think 2 of the guys supported my claim to 5.3 miles and undertood why i got the range i did. i also understand that sometimes, i may only get 2 miles at the most in other circumstances in ka band. like jim says,
really depends on alot of factors that allows or doesnt allow a ka unit to reach that far. thanx dan

Nope and in all likelyness you probably won't unless you frequent oddly straight, flat roads in El Paso at night

That's a tossup. He could be right or smarta$$ could be right. In my experiences, I have only had two situations that gave me 3 miles of detection. So on this one, I would agree w/ smarta$$ just because of driving experience.
