    Default Newbie needs help

I was recently pulled over for doing about 25 over the speed limit at 2am in a very rural road(but none of this is important). I got pulled over by a NY State Trooper and to the best of my knowledge (and their website) they use Stalker Dual SL Radar which uses the Ka Band.

I need a detector that will give me long range reliable Ka detection. And being I'm a newbie I dont know my ass from my elbow when it comes to detectors. I'd appreciate any advice as I would not like to relive that scene again anytime soon.

    Thank You

Sorry to hear about the ticket, if you haven't paid it already, try to plea bargain to take traffic school for a no-points offence or something similar.

The three detectors to look at are the Bel RX65, the Escort 8500 X50, and the Valentine One. Any of those detectors will give you superb detection on all bands. I've used a Bel RX65 for a little over a year and have had great success.

Perhapps a good place for you to look for some further info would be Veil Guy's detector test.

If you come up with any questions regarding the models listed, i'm sure I could answer those for you, and the other forum members will be glad to help you as well.

Well if you want my 2 cents...

If you are looking for a detector with the best KA range out there, you are gonna have to put down some money for the V1. By far the best KA range on a detector I have ever used.

However, the fact you live in newyork, you may need somthing with better filtering for the city such as a rx65 or a x50

I'd recommend either the Bel or the V1 too...

I've got the Bel in my car, and I've never missed a cop yet. My boyfriend has a V1 - I don't understand all the technical stuff, but from what he says, he's got a better range then me.

(that sounds like such a chick thing to say. Oy. lol...)

If it's a factor of price, I'd go for the Bel. It'll do what you need, and it is cheaper. If money is no object, and you just want to know about all cops (and pharmacies, and grocery stores...but I digress), then go for the V1. Valentine will upgrade your detector for a low fee everytime they come up with a new version, so it's an investment that will continue to pay off, well into the future.

If you're bothered by excessive falsing, avoid the V1.

^I've never found it to be that bad. Everyone always complains of it though. *shrug*

Depends on where you live and what version of the v1. The 1.8's are VERY sensitive.

    *semi-off topic*

I finally saw the "J" mode at work the other day. I thought it was funny, but I'm not certain that I know what it is...

    Anyone care to explain?

Basically crappy detectors will put off "lows" on the same frequency as KA band. Other detects will alert you KA, until the crappy detector is out of range. The J feature will scan to see if its a real threat or a detector. If its a detector, the KA alert is terminated with a J so the driver can ignore the KA threat.

DOn't speed on roads where the NY troopers are...They are experts at instant on Ka...and at 2am you are probably the only one on the road so it wouldn't help much

I would say either the V1 or BEL RX65 and you will be good
