Default Well, due to your advice... (on a detector for an S2000)

I ordered an X50 for my Honda S2000 rather than a Solo. I bought the direct wire kit, despite having no idea what the heck I'm doing. (The reason I considered a Solo was due to the poor placement of the power socket in the S2000).

I hope someone's around when I'm screaming for help.

Just run a telephone line extension cord up along the top of the windscreen, tuck it under the rubber, and run it down the side A pillar.

I had an S2000 and this is what I did, no problem!

Where are you located, maybe someone is close by that will help you. I am in the Northwest portion of Indiana and would be willing to help you with your direct wire install.

Find anyone on here, that has hardwired and they will be willing to help you with your install. I'm in mid michigan - in case your interested.

You could always just go to the local car stereo shop and ask them how much they will charge to do it.

Agreed, this is the easiest way. The escort and valentine and bel models all use standard telephone cables rj11 for connections. Just get a short black telephone extention cable from the local radioshack.

do a google search for the model of your car, and the brand of detector you bought, there are forums all over the web describing custom installs, with pictures too.

Thanks for all the offers of help! I'm glad I found this board.

Well, I bought the $10 (non-smart cord) direct wire kit from Escort, so I assume I don't need to get a phone cord (wish I would have known that; no biggie though). I am going to try to do it myself, running it down the A-pillar like you guys said. But if after looking at the fusebox with the cord I don't feel confident, I won't try it. I don't want to screw anything up.

By the way, I'm in the southwest Florida area (Cape Coral), so yeah, if anyone here is local, I'll buy lunch, dinner or beer if you can help.

I got a quote from an auto-sound place for $60 for an install, which sounds insane. Circuit City said they would do it even if it wasn't their products for $25. I may do that if they make me feel confident.

Again, thanks for the help. Let me know if you are local. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
