Default Questions from a new forum user...

I have owned and operated my X50 for a few months now. I have been fairly pleased, but I have the 'you need to buy something better!' bug. (V1)
I have been lasered twice in this time frame (~6 months). The first time was very odd. As I pulled behind an ambulance with its lights on, Laser went off, scaring the bejeezus out of me because it was my first encounter. Could some Ambulance system set it off? I was pretty close, but not necessarily on his bumper.
Also, does anyone know of large of a laser threat there is in the Chicagoland Area, and rt 55 to St louis area? I have been reading this forum a lot lately and have realized the x50 is weak in short Ka bursts and laser 'attacks,' especially the stealth/ninja(?) mode on a certain lidar gun. I'm looking to buy a V1 if the threat is real enough. I change cars a lot due to my work, so a Blinder is out of the question, but Veil is an option I am also considering if the threat is serious enough. Laser is so deadly and I already have a ticket, so I want to be as safe as possible.
Do any of you actually turn pop on? It drives me nuts sometimes, not knowing where a signal is coming from or how serious it is...especially since officers aren't legally allowed to write tickets with that info... Is the threat worth the hassle and annoyance?
Also, how do I check my software revision? Does this company offer upgrades?
Depending on the info I receive, I will probably keep the x50 and use a V1 simultaneously. If it comes to this, what options should I turn off so the 2 RD's don't interfere with each other?
Everyone is so kind and helpful here, I am looking forward to your responses. Let me know if you have any questions for me
    -Josh

I leave POP on and it does go off now and then but I'm waiting for the day it goes off "for real". You'll enjoy running with the V1 as well, I'm sure, but based on things I've read here, I have to caution you against running them side-by-side. What some users who have both do is run the X50 in the city and the V1 on highway runs.

Good luck, and welcome to rd.net!

also, to check the software version, turn the RD off, hold all 3 buttons (2 on top, one on the front) and turn it on. It will reset the unit, so you'll need to redo your settings, but will also show the REV #. Current seems to be 5.

    Thanks a lot Robert.
Is there a way to tweak my x50 into making it more sensitive/better?

If you do a lot of city driving the X50 or RX65 are perfect. If you do a lot of highway driving the V1 is the one.

Sure, all you have to do is get the Belscort upgrade which is to get a V1.

That reminds me of the old joke
"How can you get a Honda 90 motorcycle to go 100MPH. Carefully put it into the trunk of a Car."

highway mode is going to generally be the most sensitive.

    I have revision 5, I guess that's good.
Can anyone answer my ambulance question?
