Default How to Eliminate the Radar Detector Windshield Rattle !!!

I'm posting this in the General section, since this can be applied to both the Bel and Escort detectors. This write-up is also on my CarDomain pages as well: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/485534/3

So, here are all the components we'll be working with: radar detector, windshield bracket, suction cups, and a piece of felt. Feel free to substitute the material with rubber from an old bike tube, or any other thin material you can think of to absorb small vibrations.

First, measure, mark and punch holes on the felt where the suction cups would match with the windshield bracket. Also, make sure you allow enough (but not too much) material to extend over the rear edge of the radar detector. This is where the detector would normally contact the windshield. Remember, measure twice and cut once!

Next, push the suction cups through each of the holes:

Then, slide the suction cups into the windshield bracket:

That's it! Here's the finished product:

And, finally: Here's the picture of it mounted on the windshield. NO MORE RATTLING or CLICKETY-CLACK! AND, as a fringe benefit, this felt material also provides a little protection from direct sunlight. Overall, when driving, my detector has stayed a little cooler despite the hot summer sun beating through the windshield. Make sure the rear of the radar detector is unobscured and still has a direct view of the road. Happy motoring and good luck!

Hey hey, nice post... its also a good rather-clean solution for a problem some people have with their units (depending on windshield[angle]).

Not to mention its darn cheap too!

(Just check here... I think its the angle of the picture: is your detector 100% level to the road? It seems slanted up a tad bit, but again its porbably the camera angle.)

Also how do you like the 955?

Welcome to the forum (even though you have a couple posts here already).

Nice setup. Looks like you are into those "fix it yourself" kinds of things. Very useful in a place like this, especially if you are trying to conceal a radar detector.

Thanks, AirMoore. It's the camera angle. My detector is 99.999% level to the road.

So far, my 955 is doing very well. I'm not an excessive speeder (Scion xA, 106hp, 0-60 in 5.3 minutes), so it gives me plenty of warning. Some K falsing, but nothing to really worry about. Also, I turned the X-band off with the City Nox setting.

I made this solution for my friends Escort X50 and it's keeping it quiet for him as well.
