My brother has a 02 Camaro. I usualy put my X50 just below the rearview mirror. This position has gave me laser warning every time I have been shot, 4 times.
I don't have an 8500, but my detectors get clipped directly to the headliner above the rear-view mirror, using the visor clips...
Well atleast on my camaro there isn't enough room above the rearview mirror due to the tint strip that's on there, I put mine right behind the rear view mirror but I wish i could put it above it.
Hey Mike, Just one word of caution.
About 2 years ago. I mounted a RD very low on my 2000 SS, about an inch off the dash. In the summer heat and with that huge black dash and windshield it literally melted the corners and warped the unit into a useless pile of plastic and parts. Lucky for me it was not an expensive unit. Anyway, I did leave it parked in the sun. So that did not help.
So, the morale is, be careful and remove it when parked, I sure do now with my X50..
HAve funnnnnnnnnn
Thanks for the advice, most of the time I end up putting it back in it's case and putting it down by the passenger floor to try and hide it alittle bit as well.
Cool............you ever run that Z at the track?
Best I could muster was 13.5 and 105 in 1/4..........but Im old and my reflexes are not what they used to be...........LOL
have fun
I found it very easy to install power for hard wiring. Not sure how the Camaro's fusebox is but in the Bird it's on the dirver's side, side of the dash, accesible when you open the door. Very easy to run a wire up the side pillar, all the way over to your rear view mirror.
The only item I had to remove was the visor. That allowed enough play to shove the wire into the pillar, and run it up and exit the pillar at the very top, and then shove the wire over the ceiling panel. From there run it to your rear view mirror. Granted, this was for a Whistler. Very simple power cord. I cut the existing one about 12 inches from the end that plugs into the RD, and spliced it into the power cable I installed. Gives you plenty of room to place the radar from about 3/4 of the way up until just right below the miror (where I have mine), under the left side of the rear view mirror. No wires in the way.
I have a RX65 mounted above my rearview mirror on the driver's side in my fbody. To get power I used a four-wire black telephone line and a four-wire telephone coupler. I ran the wire from the detector straight up to under the roof lining and then just shoved it under the A-pillar. I then ran the wire under the dash so it came out just below the steering column. I chose to keep the smart cord so I hooked it up here to the coupler.
The fusebox should be behind a plastic panel on the driver's side when you open the door. On the back of the panel, it will tell which open slots are for accessory and constant 12 volt power. You can go to radioshack or some where and get the small blade connector for the fusebox, spare cigarette lighter, and ring to ground the negative end of the lighter to your car's frame under the driver's kick panel.
The location is very stealth and keeps other drivers from knowing that you have a detector so they are less likely to try to use you as a rabbit. You also can use the sun visor to block the detector from the view of an officer at your door. Using the smart cord also allows you to be able to mute and quickly unplug the detector without reaching up. The downside is that laser detection will probably be diminished, but I have a blinder to take care of that anyway.
need I say more.
