    Default Rookie shopping for RD

Howdy, just joined, first post. Never have bought a RD. Taking a trip from Va. to south Fl. soon. Have had my eye on a V1, but the truth is I will probably seldom exceed the limit by more than 10-12 mph on the interstates. Can I get by with something cheaper while I'm "learning" about this tool? Maybe I need to go a little faster in order to make an expensive purchase worth while!

Also, I've read a lot of threads today where guys are talking about exceeding the speed limit by 25-30 mph. Is that done routinely? I'd think the risk of losing your license would make the fast travel not worth it.

Anyway, glad to be here. Thanks for the info.

I'm more interested in having a unit on a long trip away from home. In state I won't be hurryin' so much. Are there any decent units you all might recommend in the $200 range that would do me some good? Spent ALL the money on the automobiles. If cheapin out on this thing would be a worthless purchase, I'll wait a while and blow the $400 when I can better fit it in. Thanks.

Are you sure it is blowing $400??. when you consider the fact that speeding tickets cand run from $100-$300, I hardly think that it is blowing money, just a couple of saves, and the unit has paid for itself, any more save than that, and that is money that you have saved, and can use towards something that you enjoy. Just a thought......

In your state, I would say go Beltronics STI. The Valentine is a great detector but you would never be able to run it in your state without fear of being pulled over for having a detector in your car. Also if your going to blow more than 200.00, I would want to be able to use it all the time to get my moneys worth.... I believe Roy will give a discount to a forum member..... Hope this helps you on your purchase.

Just send Roy a PM. I am sure he will give you a good deal, and will ship it out very quickly!

I went cheap and bought a PNI silver bullet the first time around, and wish I had just ordered an STI from Roy. Now the STI is on its way!

For $200 the best radar detector you can buy new is a Beltronics Vector 995 that is on sale or a Beltronics Vector 895. Check with RadarRoy on the 995.
