its not the volts you should check its the amps... it may work for a while but be aware one day they may not turn on... i see it all the time..a relay is only like 1.50$ and is awsome prevention
I suppose I could do that, where could I get a relay, I was told this before, but dont know where to get oneOriginally Posted by zfactor
and yes i do know that amps and volts are totally different, i guess that was pretty stupid of me
but right now until I get a jammer, Im running my GT2 off the hardwire, and kepping the X50 low and on the cig plug
and I mean installers are good and all, but I do what I can myself, because money is money, i installed my Deck and changer myself, I got a professional to do my Amp set-up though (Happens to be my cousin, a certified mechanic and installer who did it for free)
oh yeah and why is that a problem especially with the Alpines and Pioneers???
and as an installer who deals with car audio day in and day out, which do you prefer or think is better, Alpine or Pioneer??????and what brand in your opinion is the one you'd chose (doesnt have to be one of the two)
pm me your address and i can send you a relay.. no biggie i buy like 500 at a time...
as far as alpine/pioneer. they both have there +'s and neg's... i actually use a premier deh880-prs myself right now... i think alpie used to be the king of the hill.. untill the last 2-3 years. the glide touch was one of the worst things they could have done.. wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to many bad units and people hated the user interaction with it... and now you dont even get 4v pre-outs unless you buy their top line model or the top line dvd player and spend huge $$$$.... i do like the bio lite display though very nice... but $$ for $$ nothing in a reg head unit compares to the 880prs... 5v preout.. dual l+r 16 band eq's yes separate l+r 16 bands per side. you can shut of the amp in it for better s/n and thd specs... the new display it just awsome... especially in the whilte color.. basically the 880 offers everything alpine decided to leave out this year...the only other contender imo is eclipse. the new decks from them look like toys though very cheap looking plastic. they do perform thoug but at a much higher price point....
i say especially the alpines and pioneers becasue they both have been known to those that hook em up all day over the last years to be very touchy when it comes to the remote leads.. hook to many amps up to the pioneers and i have watched this lead go up in smoke literally... jvc as well is even worse for this...
get a bosche style 30 amp relay:
pin 86 is in from ign ot the remote lead on the deck
pin 30 is 12 volt constant FUSED... use maybe a 20 amp in there
pin 85 gets direct SOLID ground
pin 87 goes out to amp and radar or just radar basically the output lead. this will allow for up to a 30 amp draw and everyone is happy...
I actually like the Glide touch, mine hasnt given me s**t yet and I like the speed at which I can program using it and do other things (I got it Brand new at Best Buy clearanced at 300) as opposed to the regular buttons, and I especially like my display, the Biolite is cool, but it only has 1 color
I love Alpine, but I will agree the 2006 model line SUCKS S**T, the 05 line was much better.........Pioneer is good too, bu some of the units in the lower price ranges suck...and so do alpines in those ranges too, but generally I agree with you all others kinda lag behind the two in performance and loos and performance vs price
man i could not even begin to tell you the horror we had with that d@mn glide touch... here in fl in the heat peoples raido stations and tracks would just well change... like a ghost was in the car.. other just stopped working altogether.. dollar for dollar i think the high end pioneer this year is a much better lineup.. yes they have cheap units everyone does, but compare the premier to the alpine since that what they are for.... my prs880 only has one color also but its well white nice bright white easy on the eyes and you can see it all day long doesnt wash out at all...i love this deck. itll be coming out thugh for the new denford going in though lol (denon / rockford) we are getting some imported in from japan.. now that a sweet deck so basic in function but man they sound great... not cheap though.... alright i gotta get to bed the wife is yelling now...later
relay will go out mon for you.. no problem
thanks for all the info guys. i think i'll just go with the tap method and tap into a existing wire. the whole idea of a wire sticking outta my fuse box doesn't sound too appealing. but thanks anyway.
Definately a great choice, whatever you do - DO NOT CUT THE WIRE ALL THE WAY THROUGH. . these wires aren't made to be tapped into - and the v1 piece of junk tapper won't even cut thru these wires. just make a small cut about half way thru the wire - peel the wrapping away, wrap it around - and solder it.Originally Posted by music_man185
Also, use the12volt.com to find out exactly which wire, you'll be looking for Ignition 1. In my car its pink.
i'm thinkin about hardwiring my sirius satellite radio now. could i use the same wire i tapped into for the radar detector? or would i need to pick another to make sure it could run both?
