    Default Motorcycle & Voice Warnings

    Newbie here - although been lurking for a while . . .

I plan on purchasing a radar detector for motorcycle after testing an old RD unit on my bike recently. I used an ear piece to hear the beeps and bwaps but couldn't discern the differences why cruising along through busy highway traffic. I'm looking for info on the best RD that provides voice warnings so that I can identify the types of warnings I'm receiving.

Suggestions? Recommendations? And tell me, please, what the "digital voice warnings" sound like (e.g., "Ka band" or "X band" etc. - I'm guessing that is what is meant by voice warnings). Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I think the Cobra XRS-9700 has a place to plug-in an earpiece. Can anybody confirm this? The voice alerts on that are pretty good. They are exactly what you would expect: a voice telling you what band has been detected. It usually beeps a couple of times, says something like "K-band" once and then keeps on beeping.

Beyond that I think Roy has a whole section on the radarbusters website for motorcycle riders.

    Default Motorcycle Detectors

Well depending on what type of bike you have, take a look at either of these two sites

    Harley: http://www.stealthhog.com

    Sport Bike: http://www.stealthstreetbike.com/

You'll see that on each of these we used an Escort 8500 X50 along with the HARD sytem: http://www.radarbusters.com/products...cyles/hard.asp

You'll also need a mount, go to this page and select your bike:

Here is a combo on the 8500 and Hard: http://www.radarbusters.com/products.../hard-8500.asp

    Default Voice Warnings

    Thanks to all, especially RadarRay...
I've read those site with much interest. RadarRay's larger article on testing the Bel, Escort and V1 seems to indicate that only the Bel RX65 has voice warnings. Would that be a good choice since I'm looking for a unit with voice warnings to plug into my bike's GPS/music system?

I can confirm that the 9700 has an earphone jack.

    Default Little Tip

Little tip if you are going to use the earphone jack of either the Escort or Bel. I found that the standard "Radio Shack" jacks are a bit too long. What I suggest doing is getting the Escort/Bel earphone and butchering it for the jack, to get the right size

Thanks for the input on the earphone jack.

Any other comments on the RX65 for motorcycle application?

Only other suggestion, take it with you when you leave the bike unattended.
