    Default New to the forum

    Hi all.

I've been "using" the forums for a few days now. It has been a gold-mine of information that I used to select my new radar. The biggest help was the review the veil people did. Money really wasn't an issue, so the field of possibilities was wide open.

A little history. I started driving in 1985 and soon realized that a RD was a must-have. The problem was that I was a teen with a part time job and a car note, and a father who would never allow me to purchase a RD. I settled on a cheap Uniden that I paid somewhere around $49 for from a Walmart. Cetainly not the best, but it was displayed proudly on my dash and did save my butt from a few tickets, and sometimes didn't. My next RD was a cheaply priced Cobra (can't remember model) and I had that for many years to follow. My next RD would prove to be the best model that I had ever owned up to that point. Circa 1995 I purchased an Escort Passport that I cannot remember the model number to. The whole reason I bought it was the fact that it had a spectrum analyzer on it, and the biggest display I had ever seen. I paid around $350 for it if I recall correctly. The display was a greenish yellow. I had that one until around 2002 and bought a cheap Whistler 14xx. I liked that it talked, and it was rather inexpensive. I didn't like the fact I had to reset my options every time I turned it on. Hence the Whislter 1773 I bought last year. Now the audio has gone out on it and I was in the market for a new one. This time I was going to go all out.

My heart was set on the V1, and I was going to buy it until I came across these forums in my research. Last night I purchased my Bel RX65 Pro, extended 2 year warranty, and overnight air delivery from the Beltronics online store. They say I should have my RX65 by tomorrow 1PM.

So many thanks goes out to many of you who unkowingly attributed to my purchasing decision. Especially the folks at Veil for their superb in-depth review.

**Edited to change model number of my latest Whistler**

Sounds like maybe the Passport 5000?
It had a Spectrum Analyzer display. A real one too, not what they call a Spectrum Analyzer in todays Belscort manuals (the threat display).

Actually that's not my photo, but I DO have one, I've got a few old detectors laying around, gathering dust mostly...
Too bad I can't send it to Escort for an upgrade

But shame on you for not buying from Roy. http://radarbusters.com

You could have saved $30 by joining Roy's mailing list... <snip>

Can get in trouble if price posted online is below MSP <RadarRoy>

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

I know I could have bought it from Roy's site, but I wanted to buy it directly from the manufacturer. That way I paid for everything (extended warranty) with one transaction. I didn't see the warranty on Roy's site.

From what I've read on him in the last couple days he is very devoted to his customers. If I was stripped for cash, I definitely would have bought from his site, and subscribed to his newsletter for the discount.

I even stopped at some truck stops last night just in case they would have them (albeit at a much higher price I'm sure).

I've already downloaded the pdf manual. Getting all the reading in now so I don't have to when it arrives.

    ;-)

Don't worry, there's still plenty of business left for Roy. Veil, Blinder, LaserShield, maybe a detector for a significant other...too many goodies to mention!
