Default Detector Comparisons -- Old and New

OK. Two part question for you more knowledgeable people.

    Part one:

I am using an OLD Bel715i in my car right now. It falses a LOT, but I've learned where the standard falses are. It's alerted me twice before I saw the LEO and twice after I saw him. I have NO idea what it's saying to me, since the manual is nowhere to be found, but I know the range is marginal at best.

A fellow 6 owner offered to sell me an Escort Solo. Not the S2, the model before that. For $50. I declined due to the fact that our dryer just went bad (more damn money out the door), but I still wonder if that would have been a marked improvement over the Bel.

    Part two:

I am aiming for Christmas time to get a better RD. I am looking at Whistler, since I am on a budget that rules out the RX65 I really want. Deciding between a Pro73 and an XTR-560. As I understand it, the major difference is in filtering. Is that right? Is there anything else I should know between the two?

    Thanks!

Default looking for a good budget RD?

Get the Bel V995, it rates better the the whistler product. I have the V995 and really enjoy it and its everything that everyone says about it. Talk to santa roy when you can.

x3 and if you cant afford that go for a smaller priced Vector Series unit, I also hear some good stuff about some of the Express Series as well

x4, and if the 995 is out of your league still try the bel 895 ($150), both units will outperform the whistler

Thanks for the replies on Part 2. I think I am going to hold out until I can afford about $200 on a detector, then go with the 995 on sale somewhere.

What about part 1? Would the previous model Solo be a better tool for me than a 715i in the interim?

Bel vector 995 is almost as good as Bel Pro RX65 except with a few less features. The older Escort you were offerd isn't worth it and I believe Escort won't repair it if it breaks. Older Escort do a terrible job at detecting Ka radar. Save your money until you can buy a Bel 995 or Bel Pro RX65.

ANY bel 980 or later would be great...I had the 715si...JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!985 or later express works great!!! if your so cheap you cant afford jack...AN old passport 4200 works great on KA, which is what your worried nowdays. but I cheap bel express would work better. Heck, go buy a used 940 or 960, maybe even a 985 for under 100.00 easy....

Default SOLO is GARBAGE since it is saving batteries

Solo I am sure would be a fine unit...but...to save on bats it goes to sleep, then sweeps the bands and then goes to sleep again for a little while to save bats...leaving you with little protection...stupid idea!
