Default How Rain X could affect your radar detector's sensitivity

Do you guys think that a few layers of Rain-X on the front/back windshields would deflect any radar signals?? I was reading my Bel RX-65 manual and it said to watch out for -

"Instaclear, electriclear or solar reflective windshield which may deflect radar signals."

I was just curious if RainX was a similiar product or could cause the detector to be less sensitive.

Rain-X won't do anything at all. The InstaClear, etc. involve metal films built right into the windshield. Rain-X is just a liquid coating that modifies the surface properties of the glass...no metal there.

    yes i agree...

under a microscope the glass is rough! this is why water doesnt repel from it!

alls rain x does is coat the window in film.... which temporarely fills in the rough surface! until it wears off or gets washed off...

    only metal blocks radar...

rain x is good stuff i use it myself!! it makes driving safer.... i remember why i first brought some after reading it a mag... and did which was at the time my bros gti! i remeber him driving down a duel carrageway doing 70mph with the rain and wind blowing with would be in 1998... it was good to see the rain bouncing off the window i remeber it well.....

i remeber the sitting in the gti at that time..... it was really good... it felt really safe and the heater use to get really hot..... it use to be the good times..... i really do miss them.........

just dont use Rain-X Anti-Fog, that stuff is horrible. I had a small leak problem that made the moisture in my car crazy so to help until I got it fixed I said "hey, I should get this".

So I washed the windows with stoners invisible glass, and coated them with a nice thin and even application of antifog to all my windows (interior only, of course). At first it was amazing, practically a miracle...

...over time, the film degrades and attacts dirt particles, and gets very hazy. In fact, after 2 weeks I had to rewash all the windows because it was causing a bad glare problem with all the gunk in my rear window.
