This thread brings me to a question. Why are they using LED displays instead of LCD's? Is the back ground light too bright for night time? Or does LCD wash out in bright sunlight also? I know Escort was using LCD on an earlier model in the 90's.

not sure of the wattage that LCDs use, but i know that 5mm or so LEDs only use 1/4 watt, so power draw might be an issue as well as heat...

What I notice is when the V1's auto sensor (Display Brightness) is at its lowest setting at night the green is by far the brightest of all the others. And when it is at it brightest setting ( in the daytime) Green is still the winner. Now I don't know about Blue simply because the only Blue one is for Laser, but I think green would withstand direct sunlight.

    Any thoughts?

Ok heres where I stand on these issues:

jtslmn720: You moving the LED question: Yes you could do it, just get wire of adequate length ang AWG and youre good, just make sure youve got the power flowing the right way on the LED, and all that good stuff

Ace: Green could be brighter or dimmer, it really depends on the LED itself, some Red LEDs for example are brighter than other Red LEDs, it just all depends really

Ray: an LCD washes in sunlight too easily, thats a big complaint I have with the Solo S2 and all those with an LCD, the LEDs are good enough for me, but if I wantedd a display of that nature id personally opt for an OEL of some sort

Hey Arashi666, I didn't realize LCD's washed out in sunlight. I never have had an RD that had a LCD display. I have a Roady 2 but it is not in direct sunlight. Thanks for the info..

I borrowed a friends solo2 before I had bought my x50, couldnt see a thing unless it was at night, then I actually liked it more than the LED's because the backlight only came on when there was a threat detected so it drew your attention even with music loud. That being said, most LCD's are no good for high sunlight areas. Ever try and use a laptop next to the window of an airplane? thats always fun, even with a polarizing filter that most good laptops come with.
