1. ## question on Multinova Ka-photo radar....

I have reported on certain leo units that have been using ka photo in certian area's as of yet. I have only seen 1 camera in a unit and its pointing forward out of the windshield. I have not seen a camera pointing out of the rear due to heavy tint but I am assuming there is a camera looking out the rear of the unit. My question is how close do you have to be inorder for the camera to take a pic of your plate? I have been alerted of Ka from 500-1000 depending on traffic. I would think it would be very close since the photo part is angled to hit selected violators. When I'm at full Ka signal and I can see the white in the leo's eyes I would think I'm close enough right?

2. In the setup scenario you are describing, typically the multanova takes the photo at around 80m distance.

3. Do you know where the Multanova actually takes it's speed reading? As you approach it and the alert ramps up does it clock you at the max alert or beforehand?

4. It depends on the setup. The intensity of the alert is irrelevant since that only indicates when the detector recieved the strongest signal, when it right next to the source, or with a strong rebound, but not necesarily when its taking the reading & photo. Before you achieve max strength signal, you have been probably been measured already if radar is facing against direction of traffic, and viceversa if facing foward.

Typically when the Multanova is on the side of the road (such as on car or tripod), the radar is placed at a 22º angle to the road. So if the Multanova is facing foward, the photo is taken at aprox 70-80m past the radar. If on the other hand the radar is facing towards traffic, then the reading is taken 70-80m before you reach the radar unit.

This angle changes greatly in gauntry setups of the Multanova, were the angle can go as high as 45º over the road, so the picture is taken at much shorter distance. Since its a fixed installation and constant placement, I suppose the non-changing cosine effect is taken into account to reflect the correct speed reading at such a steep angle.

5. Turn the unit on its side.

The horn still needs to be facing forward but the display will now be vertical.

If you like the increased warning time, you will have to make a bracket to hold it in that position.

The Multi Nova is polarized horizontally and your Bel is polarized Vertically.

Not a good match

Rotate your unit and you will see.

There will be no effect, positive or negative, against non polarized radar
