Default My whole post couldn't fit so here is Part II of my post

This is what they say about the X50, "Overall performance of the X50 is nothing like the current Escort 8500. Less Ka camera performance, compared to the earlier Escort 8500." Their testing puts the V1 as #1 in all tests and the X50 as #2

    http://www.tex.co.nz/misc/performance.htm

Looks like the V1 beats the 8500 at this site

    http://www.radarprotection.co.nz/reviews/reviews.html

These are really good tests so read all the information. V1 gets 5 stars and the 8500 get 3.5 stars on this site

Most of the high performance car sites have discussions about this issue all the time and the V1 is picked at least 8/10 times as #1.

To those of you with the X50, Radar Roy says to just "slow down until it stops beeping" and I say to those of you with the V1, "speed up once you know which direction the radar is coming from or going to." [replacer_img]

    Dude...Roy IS moderating this forum.

Brent....How the HELL did you know I was French?!?!?!

Look I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm interested in any RD that is effective. You'd have to be a moron to say the V1 isn't.

So yes I may try one now that MV has addressed the POP issue.

Default Can we stop the religious wars please?

At first I was happy I found this forums because I thought I would get the most information about which RD to choose for real world use (because synthetic tests about the number of miles such or such detector detects a signal in perfect conditions are one thing, but real life use is another).

But I must say I am really disapointed how quickly some of the posts here have degenerated into 'religious flame wars', and now into some form of name calling (not sure how "French War Hero" should be interpreted, or how it could be demeaning since I don't see any dishonor about being either French or a war hero).

So how about some of you grow up, accept the fact that everyone here seems to agree that the V1, X50 and RX65 are all decent detectors, with some differences of course, so we can move on to how best configure them, share experiences on how to best interpret the signals we get from the detectors and on the techniques and radars that the cops are using!

For example, I just started using a detector a week ago, for the sake of relevance I won't say which one of the 3 I got, but I will say that I can still return it for a couple of weeks.

My primary interest being avoiding speeding tickets on the California freeways (Bay Area mostly), I must say that so far I have been quite disapointed by the radar detector: with all possible alerts turned on I got too many false hits, now I have disabled X band (seems un-used by CHPs), I still get a few hits (not many though) mostly on a K and some on Ka that I can't correlate to a cop in the vincinity. Even more annoyingly I have seen quite a few CHPs on my regular commute, and not once have I gotten one hit from my detector, as if they are not using radar, even at their favorite hiding spot which would be a perfect place to use radar, and none as I came up to them in the process of writing a ticket to some guy on the side of the road.

Does this mean that they are not using radar in my area, or just use the radar when they already have you in their sights (in which case the detector is useless because it just tells you it's too late you're getting a ticket now) and I should just go back to simply scanning my mirrors like I've been doing for years?

Agreed. I'll try to stop my sarcasm. It's just so hard when your dealing with VEE-lievers.

I see you are a radar rookie. That's fine everyone started at one time. I wish you coulda been around about 25 or 30 years ago. Back then the cops had X-band constant on and you would literally pick them up for MILES. Even with a Radio Shack detector...and even if they were over a hill AND around a curve.

Today it's all changed. With low powered instant-on radar it is very hard to detect period. Then add to that cops are much more savy about how to operate and NOT be detected. Nowadays they are very discreet about whom they pull the trigger on.

You can bet your a$$ CHP has radar. They just don't pull the trigger on every Tom, Diick and Harry on I-5 because everytime they do it sets off every RD within 2 miles. So they lay in wait preying on what is obviously a speeding car then they zapp you.

If you are in the Bay Area you'll probably want to run in city mode with X-band disabled. Even then you'll get alot of falses from a variety of sources on K band. I personally have never had a Ka false. Everytime Ka alert comes up there IS a cop nearby.
