The DPS Leo's that I encounter like to get you from a head on position. I drive on US 290 which is 2 lanes each direction with a large grass median in the center. They can instant on you and cut across the grass and get you. This is their preferred tactic. They also like to ambush from overpasses. They get at the bottom of an overpass and nail you right as you come over the top if it. They are sitting at the bottom and you don't see them till it's too late.
I have never seen a Leo using a handheld gun on my route because it's mosty rural and the small town depts. just don't use them.
So, with all this in mind, what mid to high end detector would you recommend for picking off K & Ka band radar in my specific application? Most of the roads that I travel are straight and open and I have learned to slow down going over overpasses.
I also don't think they are using POP radar either. Isn't POP radar handheld? If it isn't then I may buy a detector with POP capabilities for the future.
Anyway, I can tell there is a lot of knowledge on this board. I'm looking forward to getting some video of my travels. I drive over 140 miles a day and encounter no less than 3 to 7 bonafied Red Patches (Texas DPS Traffic Officers) each day.
In fact, the DPS regional Headquarters is on US 290 near 1960 in Houston. About 5 miles from my office  So, whatever unit I buy, it will get tested. And, after reading about Roy on the net I'm going to buy from him. I always buy American.
That it.
