Default Escort DSP (do you guys remember it?)

I am a V1.8 pop2 owner and I have been a V1 owner since some time around 1992-1993 when the V1 first came out and I have to say I have always been happy my V1 performance. I started using radar retectors in 1988 starting off with a Cobra(I cant remember the M#). After I retired my Cobra I bought a the Passport by the original CMI and I just loved that little maching to death I wish I knew where it was because I would love to have it for sake of collecting. I then ordered the new and latest Escort DSP (at that time you had to be on a waiting list when ordering it) Well this unit was the cats a$$. It came with a digital key that would unlock the unit after I beleive 30 hours of run time to help prevent theft. From there I then bought the V1 when it first came out and I have stayed there since that date on.

Well enough of the history about my radar detectors. I still to this day have my Escort DSP adn the little digital security key and I decided to pull it out to see if it works back when I sent my V1 for its pop 2 upgrade. It turns out the unit still works except for some unknown reason it is blind to K band. I am wondering if someone here has the ability to repair the K band on this unit? I know it may not make sence to repair this unit but I would like to have it repaired fo the sake of collecting the last good radar detector made by CMI when CMI exisited.

The current passport/escort units are no longer made by CMI since CMI had gone through bankrupsy and parts of it sold off to other companies.

Anyone out there on this board with the ability to repair electronics please post here and PM me.
    Thanks.

If it's anything at all like the Bel MicroEye series, it might be a voltage regulator. The MicroEyes had a problem with a regualtor going bad and going blind to K-Band.

Talk to Jimbonzzz about the repair. For the time, the DSP was the best radar detector.

Look how the 1991 DSP compared to the 1997 V1 on X and K band (red and orange bars). It didn't have Ka band detection but who the heck needed that in 1991?

I would be willing to take a look at it (if you pay shipping)

Hmmm, I have something new to add to this. I pulled the Escort DSP back out today and it isn't deaf to K band. It is alerting as x band to door openers that the V1 knows is really K band but when I take the Escort on the interstate it does alert as K band when being hit with real police K band. I wonder if the door openers are at the top or bottom end of the K band freq and when the escort was made it was designed to look for the middle of the k band freq. So when getting a door opener it knows it's radar but cant decide what band. Well this is only my theory. If anyone with more education in this area can explain better I would appreciate it.

    itisjustme,
I remember very well as I was on that same waiting list through Christmas of 89.
I believe the light blinked rapidly during the last 10 hours or so to warn you to get ready for the key. I returned mine after the 30 days as it did not seem any better than my original Passport which was smaller.
