Japan is the King in electronics. Why not a good RD?

We all know from Robotics to TV and to Rice cookers are all basically Japanese brands. The top-of-the-line electronics are Made in Japan.

Why Japanese don't give a thought on making a good radar detector and Laser Jammer? I mean Japan even have nicest mod. cars for drifting and racing. Do those people don't care about the cops?

If Japanese being serious on radar detector business, I am sure the V1 and Escort will be crying out loud.

they dont because they really dont need one like ours and they dont care about the cops, their traffic system is filled with good drivers, and theres sooo much traffic most of the time and so many people on the road that you cant really speed in the cities, and then outside there arent many cops but the fact is the guys that have all those nice cars and that might need an RD KNOW they can outrun the cops........... so it all comes down to the fact that they dont care about it

when you live on an island thats 70 miles long and 15 miles wide - there isnt much need to speed - unless you like to swim.

Dam i had a link to a Japanese site that was selling detectors they looked like something from "Lost in space" had all the spec etc only detected X and K ban @ around 100dbm. I was over their last year and found that the cars had detectors in them and a lot were solar powered

. Thing is they are great drivers 30 km/h means 30 km/h. If your gonna speed in the small streets etc your not gonna have a car for very long and a detector not gonna help imo. However they could make them and sell them over seas the Koreans do (not very good ones thou). I think that they are not gonna be near VR or bell for sometime thou. Even it's made in the US it's still pretty good stuff

RD are more or less a joke in japan ... i think have seen a japanese model that said 'Slow Down Daddy' whenever it was picking up radar.[/i]

Supply and demand.

There isn't much demand for solid detectors there... hence no supply/research in that field.

Because they put more effort on reverse engineering than R&D.

Because they have a conformist cuture that is not interested in RDs. Here in North America there is a more rebellious attitude. We don't trust politicians, we are suspicious of everything, and we're damned if we're going to let big government get the better of us. We hate taxes, and that includes speeding tickets. There's a love for the wide open road, and LEOs don't fit into the picture.

The Japanese seem to have a greater honour code. They seem very law abiding. Also, there's not enough money in RDs.

BTW, the RDs produced here are the best in the world.

Back in the day, Uniden produced innovative, high performance RDs--the RD9XL and CARD were as good as the original Passport in most ways. They had some good IP, by the way.

IMHO, Whistler took the position left open when Uniden left the US market.

Japanese society, as well as the Chinese and most of the Asian ones as well, is pretty much very submissive (as per individual behavior), no such Born-to-be-Wild kind of tradition, exception some Asian places where they follow the Born-to-Kill kind of religion... I bet they (Japanese) would make great RDs, hopefully NOT Made in China, nobody knows how competion will react to that, for sure our Aussie/NZ friends (where RDs are way too expensive) would salute any (very good) RD made in the Sunrise State :wink:
