    Default Audi k-band and FCC?

I was reading about radar jammers and the FCC was brought up. Apparently one needs a license to emit K band radar. Would driving the new Audi SUV that uses K band proximity sensors be against the FCC laws? I think it has 4 K band "guns"

Audi and the rest should have thought twice about using radar and laser on their cars. They should be aware of the abundance of radar detectors on the roads.

As being a Audi owner, Audi engineers tend to over-engineer their cars.

Im not sure they really care about their effect on radar detectors, they made something new and cool, who cares about the annoyance it causes to some RD users. That how Audi probably thought about it, or it seriously didnt come across their R&D tables.

Audi also didn't consider the fact, as most car companies haven't that this makes radar detectors in that car useless. Which is why i dont thing such technology will really take off. Buyers need to consider this if they choose to buy this car, cus if they do their K band will be going off constantly.

No, it would not be against FCC laws. The 24 GHz modules used in the Audi are manufactured by Hella, and are "Part 15" approved, no license is necessary. These modules are FMCW, and high-end detectors should be able to filter out this interference.

An FCC license IS required to operate a "Part 90" K-Band police radar gun.

The Audi modules are FMCW? That's good, I guess. Still, why didn't they go with the 70-odd GHz radar that they use for their adaptive cruise? K band is overcrowded enough as it is...

I guess if all LEOs switched entirely to Ka band it wouldn't be an entirely bad thing...

FMCW, that's good to hear! What about the MBs that use 77 GHz and 24 GHz radar, are they also FMCW?

Thanks Jim, this gives me an idea as to contacting the FCC and asking them if SpeedInfo has the proper license to operate these K band drone units all over.
Wouldn't that be something if they were operating without the proper permit that you just described?

The only detector I know for certain filters out FMCW is the V1...
