    Default LIDAR through a window?

Okay, this is probably a silly question, but I didn't find anything in the archives.

How effective is LIDAR through a window?

Can an officer sit inside a cruiser and shoot laser through the sloping front windshield, targeting the rear of vehicles as they pass? What about perpendicular to the flow, shooting out the passenger side window at oncoming vehicles?

Is the range of laser diminished in either of these cases?

Yes, they can use laser in this manner. But, as you suspect, range is generally diminished in these cases. Some manufacturers mention window coatings that reduce infrared, and that the slope of the front windshield reduces range. They generally recommand shooting through the side window if possible.

    Default Jimbonzz is right

Yes I have a prolaser 2 even and I can shoot through glass somedays it works better than others getting through the glass on my ford explorer. I can shoot through my front windsheild and passenger windows as well. But as Jim has stated it severely reduces my range. Sometimes though not as bad as others i think it depends too on how reflective the vehicle is being targeted. I also think the newer the gun the better it is to shoot through glass as my prolaser 1 wouldn't even think about going through my glass in my truck whereas my prolaser 2 just cuts right through it. Which leads me to beleive they are trying to upgrade the guns to be able to get through glass so and officer can keep his windows up and maybe due to cold climates still use laser. I have actually still gotten people at 250 meters out through glass! The weather also really affects this shooting through glass thing if its foggy snowy rainy you might as well forget shooting through glass cause between the two by the time you get a speed they are either right ontop of you or your don't even get a reading and they pass.

If I remember correctlly, during some testing with JTW, the Laser Atlanta could be shot through the windshield with no neg. effect on the Laser Atlanta. I have also been hit with the Prolyte and the LEO was aiming out he rear window between the fronts seats and I started jamming about 1,300ft +/- and I was at 75mph and slowed down the about 65mph and turned my laser mimic off. I think it depends on the laser gun.

Wow....you learn something new everyday, i didnt know they can target behind the window. I have seen them doing that but I always thought maybe they are trying to measure distance but not speed

how does your laser jammer actually work? and will they know if u have one? is that why u turned it off? and how much it cost u if its jamming lasers at 1300 ft, that sounds really good.

I would think that laser shot through a window would be easier to detect scatter from, since the glass would scatter the beam somewhat.

Plus with the reduced range, you could possibly slow down in time, more likely than without glass in the way.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

I got targeted 100 miles short of Las Vegas by an LEO in a white, un-marked Crown Victoria cruiser. He was shooting through the drivers side window. It was so hot that day, that's why he was in the car with the AC on i bet :?

Not have looked through a Prolaser 3 or Prolyte but the others i have looked through gave a E or JA code, (possible jammer in use).
