I've seen a bit of interest in hardwiring belscort RDs and retain functionality of that button. I've also read that a lot of people end up buying a new smartcord.
Inside the smartcord lies an actual circuit, not just a simple switch. This circuit contains, among various items, a 2N3904 transistor, so you can't just try to make a switch between the two non-power wires and think it will work.
I'm not sure how much information I can post about the circuit here, but if an admin tells me it is ok, I'll post the smartcord schematic here so people can hardwire their RDs with smartcord functionality. It is all of less than $10 of parts (fuse, 4 resistors, 2 LEDs, a 2N3904, breadboard, hook-up wire), so all in all, not too bad.
But I want to emphasize, you can't just try and use a switch to make it work, you'll end up breaking something.
So once I hear a yay or nay about detailed information, I'll see if I can't make things happen. It may be a few days because a storm knocked out internet at my house, so I have access every few days...
