1. ## How many seconds does it take for radar/laser get a reading

I am curious to know (besides pop radar) how long does it take the average "instant on" radar gun or lidar gun to get a speed reading. is it a fraction of a second or 2-3 seconds

Generally under optimal conditions, a fraction of a second.

3. Laser:

(Assuming the circumstances are favorable)... IE: reflective surfaces (the car your targeting doesn't have countermeasures and is within a reasonable distance)... A fraction of a second.

Again assuming your in an average car at a reasonable distance, (less then a ) second.

Its hard to give a 100% set awnser because , there are many variables.... weather/range/countermeasures(for laser)/ cars reflective surfaces (laser)/ car shape&Size (laser/radar). etc etc

Lets put it this way:

IO Radar without prior warning... you won't 'outbrake' the guns reading to get to the PSL

Laser (with no countermeasures besides a detector)... again you wont outbrake the Lidar guns reading.

X2

It can take .03 seconds in optimal conditions and range. Through a side window it can take 2-4 seconds depending on the cars reflectivity.

5. With radar it depends on how much interference or other targets are out. I can generally get a patrol car reading before any detectors are set off and a target speed the moment the RD is being set off.
