Anyone have input on the best Radar Detector under $150. Just want a decent detector. Lost my Escort 8500.
Thanks!

Whistler PRO58 for 100
Whistler 1793SE for 100
Whistler PRO73 for 150
Make your pick, all have the same detection range (excellent for price). The only that differs is the style of the detector and features (screen, compass, etc)
I dont know bel models but I heard they have other detectors in the same price range with similar detection. Whistler and Bel are really your only choice though.
Thanks for the input. Never owned a Bel. Had a Cobra and Uniden years ago. I really don't need a compass, just a decent detector.
Uniden is out of the radar detector business, and Cobra's have very very bad falses and range. They are known for bloating detectors with so many features, but they miss the most important part: radar detection.
If you're concerned about falsing the Bels might be a better option but you're better off looking up some of their models and asking anyone who has a low end Bel.
Whistlers have been known for falsly identifying bands. On my PRO58 sometimes it will ramp up X band and it ends up being K. Also sometimes when i'm going around town where I usually get K with the X50, it will say Ka which is obviously not true.
The range is excellent, almost as good as the X50 especially for that price. If you're the type that just slow down whenever you hear a beep, whistler is the way to go.
Whistler, eh? They are easy to find. Seen them at Walmart and Target Stores.
I recommend looking at the numbers Here
Also check Guys of Lidars, and there are tons of other RD testing sites if you're looking for numbers and stats.
btw I wouldn't get just any Whistler the 3 I know of that are good are the ones I listed. Some of the XTR especially models have horrible range, but some have good, there are probably 100 whistler models.
Sounds good. Just looking for a good detector...low falsing...and good range. My Escort 8500 was nice, until I misplaced it! Maybe I'll find it somewhere in the garage!

Unless I really missed something, "horrible" is pretty harsh for a slightly diminished range.Originally Posted by Synbios

I've seen the Pro-58 for about $80. Doesn't sound too bad. Would you recommend that for under $100? I used to have an Escort 8500, but misplaced it. Foolish! That's why I don't want to spend too much. Would like a decent detector though.
Heck, get a Bel 895 for $150. It will out perform any whistler mentioned. But I am not saying that the whistlers mentioned are bad. Just that in tests 895 performed better.
However, they are only sold at one place and they are discontinued so it might be hard to find one.
