    Default Homebrew detector?

Hey, there was an old thread where people were sortof interested in building a radar detector, unfortunately it got closed when we figured it would be easier to reverse engineer an existing one :-P (But with radar roy's radar contacts he felt uncomfortable with this, I understand).

Okay, okay, lets start over this time.

And lets set the bar nice and low, we can start with something simple like X band detection and work our way up.

For background, I know the ins and outs of computers, and I know very basic electronics (I can install a modchip, have pretty good soldering skills, and I can tell you what a capacitor and a resistor does off the top of my head :-P. Other than this, I have never designed any complicated electronics but I thought this would be a fun community project!).

Anyone interested? We can make a simple parts list, and the biggest thing is that we should try and get all parts from of-the-shelf components available from a parts retailer like radioshack if possible (or even if you dont personally get them from there, the fact that they would be easily accessable to others would be a plus).

Well, it should be a very good business project! When it will be ready we should call that as 'Grassy Valley jumper' which makes our car invisible because if it is on, the officer's eyes simply jump to other cars and cannot measure us at all. Its effectiveness will be at least three times of any other products in its segment of business, of course.

It would take quite a bit of work to make your idea work well.

You could get things like the horn antenna and stuff, but the real tricks will be in the signal processing. It is like your radio... you hear lots of static, but you might hear a peep here and there. Your DSP (or analog) would need to analyse this signal and see if it is real. The Escort/Bel products seem to do this better than the V1. However, it takes quite a bit of experience to determine real/fake signals. Plus, KA band will be the killer, as it is a large sweep.

your actually on to something here except it being non-superhytrodyne you will lose a lot of radar sensitivity.. .

all you needed was to change the leads of the main capacitor to the frequency of K or Ka band to get them too. I believe this would call for three of these detectors thou...It could be done and it is vg anything proof!

    lazer is another story...

It also may work on any POP system...that's possible? :?

Did you try it? Did it actually detect X-band?

Yeah it worked....Dead on. The capacitor I used was a variable, and that was supposed to be able to adjust the "sensitivity."

It was a fun weekend project.
