    Default can someone explain this?

i took this of ROY'S site

    Auto Mode
Most radar detectors have at least one city mode and highway mode. The idea is when you are driving in the city, switch the detector over to city mode to reduce the radar detectors sensitivity and reduce the chances of all the false alerts. Then when you are on the highway, switch the detector over to Highway mode to increase the sensitivity detecting Smokey at a greater distance away and allowing you ample time to slow down.

As you can imagine, many people forget to switch from mode to mode as their driving environment changes. Auto Mode to the rescue! This feature adds a third sensitivity range to your radar detector which allows it to sample your driving conditions and adjust the radar detector accordingly. Available only with the Escort 8500 X50 and the Beltronics RX65.

Is he talking about autoscan? Does this mean that when in Autoscan the detector is somehow monitoring your driving conditions? Does it know your speed or something (like the 9500i, I know it has GPS and is dif just using an example)?

    thanks

No, it does not and cannot detect your speed. What it does is keep measuring the RF signals it's receiving and dynamically adjust the threshold sensitivity of the RD to which the RD will alert. With Hwy, the threshold is ZERO, with City the threshold is raised for X band, with AutoScan the threshold is raised for all bands (except Laser/POP).

The AutoScan part is not well documented but is based on reports from folks on this forum. The key downside of AutoScan, IMO, is raised threshold for Ka.

yes, Radar Roy has a special receiver that monitors your speed, when you exceed the limit he calls the police and they fine you....he is always watching you ops:

I can't say for all detectors, but I know for the Bel 895, the above isn't true. it only filters X band, not K or Ka. I heard that there are some older 895s that filter on K band, but never heard about it filtering Ka band. Where did you get this info?
