Default Construction zone heavy equipment giving off k-band?

They're twinning the highway near where I live. For the past few days, every time I go past one particular section when this one particular monster CAT machine is working, I get a k-band alert. No LEOs in sight anywhere. And if that machine is parked, not moving, I don't get an alert. I'm wondering if it maybe has some sort of k-band sensor like the automatic doors use to detect people or other objects in its path?

And if that's the case, one of those machines had a broken sensor yesterday -- all kinds of cops and a crowd of construction workers standing around staring at a big machine that had backed right over the top of one of the workers parked cars! Not funny, I know, but I couldn't help laughing!

Well they are used in tractors for speed control, but we've also had some construction give of full K band alerts.

I don't know if they are also being used for speed control - or if they are just drones to get people w/ radar detectors to slow down a bit more. Which in itself isn't a bad idea at all.

I would think it's unlikely that they're using radar to get people with RDs to slow down b/c RDs are illegal here and hardly anyone has them. What they typically use when they want people to slow down in construction zones around here is a big "Construction Zone! Slow down!" sign along with a very visible side-of-the-road radar machine with a digital sign that tells you how fast you're going. Those are usually used in areas with a construction zone speed limit, but here, because the work is going on off to the side where they're building the other side of the future twinned hwy, the speed limit doesn't even change - it remains at 100 kph all through the construction zone.

It's possible that the k-band radar I'm picking up is being used for speed control, except that there's nowhere for a LEO to hide, I've never seen one doing speed control there, or seen anyone pulled over, and I drive past this spot 4x a day, sometimes more. That's why I thought it was a bit weird and wondered if it they were using k-band for something else. Maybe I'll stop and ask them one day.

Well not speed control of the traffic, speed control of the machine.

    IN Tractors for example.

Speedometer(which I don't think they have) is saying the tires are spinning at 25 miles per hour, but how fast are you really moving? Are the tires slipping alot? It uses this to K band radar to modify the speed and how fast the tires are actually spinning.

This could be true for the construction equipment too.

In my area many construction speed signs have a small radar unit on the bottom of the sign. Just look for it and you will see it. It is to slow down those with RD’s.

I don't know what the real reason is, but if you asked Cobra they would tell you that it's the special equipment giving out codes to their detector. Which their Patented strobe alert feature would not just give a K band signal but would indicate which particular message was being sent out by the equipment.

    Default nobody

Spankyaf, nobody w/ a STi in Ontario has a "detectable" rd. All of the others can be detected. The V1 isn't far behind the STi in terms of being stealthy.
