I've posted in a few threads about my worries that my new STi is not working properly (no advance warning on k-band, and no other alerts in 2 weeks), and also about how I bought an X50 first but never opened it, and am about to sell it.
I'm toying with the idea of opening the X50 and running it for a while to see how it compares with the STi. If I get any alerts with the X50, I'll go back with the STi and see if it gives me the same alert. I need the STi for its invisibility, but if it turns out that the X50 picks up radar/laser that the STi misses, then I know I have to send the STi back for servicing.
So I have a few questions...
Do the STi and X50 have the same power cords jacks? I'm wondering if I can put the X50 on the visor where the STi is right now and plug the STi's hardwired cords into the X50? That way, I'm controlling for the positioning of the RD when I do the comparison testing. I'll only be able to turn the X50 on when there's enough traffic to make it unlikely that a LEO with an RDD will be able to pick me out. Does the X50 detect RDDs and give a sound alert?
Do you think my idea of comparing the STi and X50 this way has any validity to it? Is it worth the risk of getting caught with the X50 and the money loss I'll take when I sell it (it'll no longer be factory sealed)? Or should I just pack up the STi and send it back to Roy for testing/servicing? I just really don't trust it, but on the other hand, it might be working just fine and it's just that there's no radar around here at the moment -- I live in rural NS (Annapolis Valley) with small towns (my two encounters were in the "big city" of Halifax -- perhaps they were both instant on and no-one in front of me was targeted, and that's why I got no warning -- unlikely that no-one else was targeted, but still possible).
Part of me is curious to see how the two RDs compare but if my comparisons aren't going to be valid or the X50 doesn't warn of RDDs then I should probably forget it. What do you think? What would you do if you were in my situation?
