Default Explaining Radar Detectors to people in your car

How many times has this happened to you guys:

You're giving someone a ride that you don't know all that well or someone that doesn't know a thing about technology. You fire on the engine and the radar detector goes through the self test, and you hear the person say "WHAT WAS THAT"

So here comes the long explanation of what it is and what it does.

Maybe this doesn't happen as much in the US as they are more common but in Canada I get it all the time...

Just wondering if I'm alone on this..lol...

I just say "radar detector"...and that's that. Most people here know what that is so no explanation necessary.

Use the fast start up. I don't like the long start up.

I make a joke with it. When they ask what it is I reply:

Pay attention to this here device because their will be a pop quiz at the end of the ride. Fail it and you have to pay me $20. pass and only $10.

Then after their  expression I tell them what it really is.

I never get tired of it and my wallet gets bigger each time
