Default Who in Cold weather states uses suction cups?

I'm curious, how many of you who live up north and park your cars outside at times use suction cups, and leave the detector attached to the window? I find that all cups (except for the giant GPS holding types) are always falling off the window when things get really cold.

Yeap, that happens, that is why I use my RD on my visor. There was a thread here not too long ago, you may want to look at that.

    Default I am

Lordhamster, I am having that problem right now w/ both my BelEscort and V1 cups. I heard of someone on here using a dab of vaseline on the cups to make them stick. I may have to try that. At least I have the velcro on the dash as a backup right now. But I miss my suction cups.

I recommend keeping your windshield clean. Clean it every couple of months. More if you smoke. I use Stoner's Invisible Glass...

...and my suction cups stay secure.

You leave your RD in the car?????? Thievery?

I live in frigid a$$ minnesota. I take my RD outta the car but leave the mount inside. I never have problems that way.

Currently, I don't use my suction cups, rather I use 3m Dual lock fasteners... which is a similar concept to Velcro, but much much much sturdier. The "hooks" are on both sides, so it provides more of a lego block type connection.

Anyway, I use that to mount to the dash for now. I've tried both using cups, both leaving the detector mounted, and taking it off each time. I actually found that the mount was more likely to fall off if the detector was not weighing it down that it was if the detector hangs on it. But either way, 90% of the time when I came out to my garage after a cold night, i'd find the detector had fallen. (or the mount alone if the detector was not on).

Man, I feel like a troll. Just go to a craft store and get some really deep suction cups. Cups that come with RDs are very shallow and don't stick well. Mine hold my windshield stronger than the RD holds the mounting bracket.

What kind of craft stores carry "deep" suction cups? and do they fit the Belscort or V1 mounting bracket without modification?

    Default quality

Keeping the window clean helps but I am also envious of these so called "quality" suction cups too!

I've cleaned my window with Windex and used brand new cups and still had them fall off in cold weather.
