    Default Cigarette lighter problem

I don't have my RD hard wired. So I am finding out that my cigarette lighter is a bit messed up. I have to wiggle the plug in around and up and down to find the G spot to get it to give it juice. Other wise it won't give power. Any ideas?

You could try using an adaptor/splitter

Like a 1-to-2(or 3 or 4) adaptor, not for the extra slot, but its possible the adaptor would fit snug into your cars cig. adaptor, and then your RD will fit snug into that.

(Just a thought), and they aren't all that much anyways.

If it doesn't work, either take it back to the store (make sure u know the stores return policy first), or sell it to someone, or keep it (they arent a bad device to have)... assuming you'll get another car in due time.

The obvious awnser: Hardwire it would also be advised, just for the overall look, and so you dont have to deal with this exact issue.

With your cig. lighter/12V-accessory outlet, it could just be some dirt/old ash in the well. Unplug your vehicle's negative battery terminal to be sure that it's not pulling any current, and then thorougly clean the well, including the base. This may do the trick.

It's also possible that its fuse is loose. Check your fuseblock.

Also, it's possible that the connector(s) running to it may be loose. Typically, this will require you to pull the outlet out of the dash, so I would check this as a last-resort, along with manually servicing the outlet (sometimes, its retaining mechanism could be loose, causing intermittent contact) - you have a vehicle which is typically very well-appreciated in the on-line enthusiast community, and I would recommend looking around for a technically-oriented Forum to search for this particular service information. Usually, even if you're a novice at DIY wrenching, interior work should not be too hard, and will only require usual household hand-tools.

    Best of luck!

I had the same problem with my Cell phone in my new car. Come to find out it was the plug on the charger cord, the center (+) pin was stuck. I finally got aroung to hardwiring the Cell phone, along with my GPS receiver and my Bel STi Driver to the fuse block. Solved all of the power problems. Like it was said above, check the socket for dirt, ash then check the plug on the adapter.

i had that same problem, it ended up being the fuse in the outlet itself, and to add to it when my CD player was stolen they messed up my lighter, so i went a ahead and just ripped out of the cig lighter and used the wires that led to the cig lighter to hard wire my PRO-73 in.

Does the lighter feel loose in the dash?

There was a flaw with the lighters used in a lot of GM and Chrysler vehicles that caused them to come loose, which would break the ground connection. The +12 lead connected to a pin on the back of the socket, then the ground connected to something of a sleeve which screwed on to the back of the socket and held it into the dash. If it's one of those, it as easy as reaching up behind the dash and tightening the sleeve with your hand.

Some cars have loose fitting lighters. Mine does so I use a 4 plug adaptor which works well.

European Lighter Adapter off of Roy's site is a possible cure as well. takes up a loose lighter plug nicely.
