Default Took the lens off some of my rd's and cleaned them.

I noticed after cleaning the lens on my V1 that the sensitivity went up which is great. I also cleaned the lens on my X50, Bel 795, Whistler, Cobra, and Early Warning. The 995 didn't need to be cleaned since I just got it back from Bel recently. I suggest everyone do this w/ there rd because dust does form on the inside of your rd. I was impressed looking on the inside of the V1 for my 1rst time.

Does one just pop them off? Or is there some mini-magic to getting them off without damage?

How did you test the sensitivity after the cleaning?

I want to know the same thing. What kind of testing was performed?

I thought that would be similar to cleaning the antenna for your am/fm radio and would make little difference.
I've got an old 8500 that is scratched all to heck from vibrating off the windshield from the wife mounting it goofy in her car and see no difference in detection range since the day I bought it.
Does the condition of the plastic or having dust or anything else on it (outside or inside) make a difference???

Foreign material on the lens could have an impact on RF reception depending on the size of the particles and their composition. Metallic materials can absorb or deflect the RF energy we need to receive the signals. Check out the screen inside your microwave oven door - those holes are big enough let light in and out yet small enough to prevent the RF from leaking out.

The wavelength of a 10GHz wave is 3mm and the wavelength of a 35GHz wave is 0.85mm so you can see how even small metallic particles may be enough to interfere with reception of Ka band signals. Not block them per se but require more RF energy to reach the detection threshold.

As for the laser receptor, those same particles would not likely scatter the light enough to interfere with reaching the threshold detection as far as I can tell.

Default This made a huge difference!

This actually made a huge difference on the escort x-50! I have seen it first hand. Right after the lens clean it outpreformed my v1! With a 4 mile then a 2.9 mile detection range!

Guys, if you're truly seeing such a radical range difference, you're going to have to try and keep all those dang iron filings off of your lenses, eventually they are going to scratch them

I've had enough bug splatter on my 8500x50 to make one sick (motorcycle).

Escort didn't like it and put in a new lens when it got serviced.
