This may seem a strange question and probably is. But I have always wounded if we could see Radar how would it look. I mean does it reflect off in all directions at 90 degrees to the contacted surface? is it all surrounding?, or if one was to try and draw it...............

At first I would think that the departure angle would directly depend on the incoming angle.
Example: Incoming:45 degree Departure: 135
Incoming:80 Departure: 100 degrees

But then again, that is more like how a beam would behave. Radar goes out in circular wave looking things, so I don't know.

angle of reflection = angle of incidence.

Light is known to behave in a very predictable manner. If a ray of light could be observed approaching and reflecting off of a flat mirror, then the behavior of the light as it reflects would follow a predictable law known as the law of reflection.

We often compare radar gun/beam as a flashlight. So..logically there should be no difference.

That's not a strange question at all! I've wondered that many times. How about a computer controlled heads up display on your windshield that would display the radar source as a light source, like the flashlight example?

Or maybe it is a strange question, and I'm strange too! :shock:

radar waves travel and look much like light waves. think of the cone like effect of a flashlight, but you can't see it
