    Default Unmarked truck emitting radar?

Hey all. I was driving home a few weeks ago on a fairly busy highway (Lots of cars, all moving about 55/60ish) when I detected a weak K band signal (4/5 out of 9) coming from a completely unmarked pick-up parked on the side of the road, in the same spot the local LEO's sometimes sit. I didn't think much of it at the time; at first I thought it was an un-marked leo trying to nab some speeders but later talked myself out of that theroy.

Just the other day, however, I saw an almost identical pick-up sitting at a small overpass where many drivers go way too fast. Mounted on the windsheild was a radar antenna! The driver, shaved head and built (looked like a cop), was on a phone and pulsing drivers with K band as they flew up the hill. What do you guys make of this? I don't know what to think and I was wondering if anyone has heard of this before. Thanks in advance for your input.

Might be a pesky rd-user and radar gun owner trying to get some entertainment. Im not going to lie, but i do head over to the local school zone and when a RD user passes i shoot instant-on k-band and get them to slow down.

Most likely is a LEO in training at the local university. They fall under their schools part 90 license, and they are perfectly legal to use for them.

They are also required to have atleast 40 hours(I think its 40) of training with the radar gun.(In Michigan anyway) - so perhaps this could be it too.

Next time you see it, just stop and ask - I'm sure he'll oblige.

Might be the GOL testing their radar guns!

Do you think the local police would bother me if I used my radar gun? RD are illegal where I live, so the Rd would not be in my possesion and that time, but many people here use Cobras. Just to watch them slam on their breaks, or is that to mean?

Still can't understand why a person would run a Cobra while driving thru Ontario? That is the question folks.

Hehe... sounds like fun Radar guns aren't illegal are they? If a cop pulls you over tell him you're researching the flight & landing speeds of birds around highways

As to Toronto. be careful on when you do it and make sure the driving conditoons arnt dangerous. You can cause a wreck indirectly.

Takk radar guns are illegal to use under FCC. But the chances of you getting caught is unlikely. just be wise doing so unless you do have a Radar Operation certificate that is.

I guess we can call them "Spectre rabbits!"

As for radar guns, ones with a Part 15 certification don't require a license to operate. Part 90 ones do require a license, but most LEOs aren't likely to know about this, and the FCC doesn't drive around with a radar detector looking for "illegal radar guns" anyway.

As for the truck, it could be an unmarked LEO.
