Default Specific direct wire cord problem.. please help!

    Hey guys,

Im making a straight cord for the X50 using the direct wire cord and a generic cigarrette lighter. The problem is that I cut off the metal ends of the direct wire before I took note of which wire is hot. All I have to go on now is the red and green wires. Ive drawn a picture of the plug with the 2 colours. The first pic is looking down from the top, with the clip on the top side.

Does anyone know which side of the plug should be the hot wire?

    Cheers all

hmm well it looks like he uses the red as the 12V hot, but hes using the smart cord, not the direct wire. Its likely the wire set up would be the same, but Id still like it if someone could confirm. Soldering them the wrong way around wouldn't be good... cheers for the help though

Radio Shack. Volt Ohmeter. Cheap, often <$10. Then be SURE. Think of it as cheap insurance.

I've already got a Voltmeter, but it wont help. I need to know which of the 4 positions on the RJ11 is for the hot wire. Well it would actually only be one of the two middle positions, as the black and yellow wires aren't on the RJ11 plug on the direct wire cord, cause it doesnt have the mute button.

If you still have the coiled cord, use the voltmeter to see which pin on the RJ11 goes to the tip of the lighter plug, and which pin goes to the ground (outer shell contact). Those are the +12 and ground pins, respectively.

If you dont have one, then go buy one, check it and then return it

make sure that the red wire is on the same side as the phone one. Just cause it is red, doesn't mean the new cord's red is in thecorrect position.

yeah well the red wire is in the same position on both RJ11s, so it has to be right.
