Currently, I own the STi RD, and it have Hwy, City, City w/no X, and Auto. The question is, do I leave it on Auto when I'm driving either in the city or in the hwy? Do auto mode have weaker sensitivity then hwy mode?

We have X band here in Charlotte, Don't know about your area but turning off X is risky.
In my opinion, I would set it up this way
Lo X
City Mode.
With these setting it will suppress X band just enough were your not annoyed and still give you the protection you need.
As far as " AUTO " is concerned, I don't trust it. I feel it suppresses alerts to much and you don't get antiquate warning time until your right up on the LEO.
so is there a spec/proof that shows the different between Hwy, Auto, City mode?
Well, I don't think they've singled the separate RD"s out and found out how "well" they do on different bands/levels. But, most of us have found just from daily driving that AUTO just plain sucks and des way too much filtering.
I agree with the guys above. If X is a threat - use orbitals. If its not, X off + highway.
I have an STi (concealed in a pocket on my visor). One day I got a couple of K-band alerts without a whole lot of warning. I pulled my RD down to have a look at it, and it was in city mode (must've accidentally hit the mode button when I was pushing it around in the pokcet.Originally Posted by Nanase
So I agree with those who say to leave it in Hwy mode.
The RCMP still use X-band a lot where I live (NS), so I have X turned on (I would've had at least two hefty tickets if I'd had it turned off!). But you're in southern Ont, yes? I don't think the cops use X-band there.
X3, unless the wife is in the car then I just don't turn it on when in the city or I get a headache (from the fussing and a bop on the head)...lolOriginally Posted by bauzer71487
so LEO don't use X band anymore in Ontario?
