    Default Valentine 1 v Escort Passport 9500i

Hello everybody. I am new to the world of radar detectors and want to start out on the right foot. I want to buy the best on the market and have been told by reliable sources that these are the two to choose from. The feedback from this post (as long as it is good and in decent supply) will help determine which one i purchase.

So which would you purchase? And if you feel so inclined --- Why would you purchase it and not the other?

    Thanks for the help!

Go here http://www.guysoflidar.com/march-2007/tests.html and decide for yourself. Even though I am a big Escort fan I am really leaning towards a v1 more and more everyday.

You've probably already done this, but I would read as many posts as you can regarding these two RDs in their respective forums. Of course, most the the posts in the V1 forum will be very pro-V1, and same for the 9500 and its forum.

Both are high-end detectors. The 9500 is newer, but a few users have noted some problems. These may be isolated issues, or simply a few bugs to be ironed out. The V1 has been around a lot longer, but its internal workings are tweaked as needed to stay up to date.

With proper usage, you'd do very well with either detector. I have a V1, so you can tell my recommendation, but I'd be happy with either as well.

Some forum members have purchased one of the RDs and tested it during the first month. You can usually return the RD within 30 days if not satisfied. You can decide what you think of this practice. Personally, I don't like it, because you're returning a perfectly functional product. This increases the costs to the company, and makes them less likely to offer a generous return policy, and more likely to raise rates.

    Good luck in your decision.

I'm a huge Escort fan but in all honesty I wouldn't purchase the 9500i at this time. I would learn more towards the X50 or the V1. Both are outstanding detectors. Two things to consider.

    1. Do you have laser in your area?
    2. What kinda driving do you do?

The Escort is a better city detector because of it's filtering capabilities.
The V1 is very sensitive and is a better Highway type of detector.

    Hope this help.

    Default that's

That's a no brainer, the V1. Too many glitches in the 9500i. Even my X50 rev 5 beats out the 9500i in range.

That is all you need to know in a nutshell. Although the V1 has some things it can improve on, which they all do - the 9500i really does have glitches and bugs.

The biggest difference here is just features. If you like a very good all around radar, the V1 is a good choice. I don't think there are too may glitches with the 9500i. The only glitch i have known so far with the 9500i is that, it does not alert to the presence of a K band radar in a lockout zone.

For those who say there are many bugs and glitches, please mention some that i don't know. That's aside from the ramp up.

You and me both, brother.

I've owned nothing but Escorts over the years and just sent my 9500i back. I've had my V1 not even a week and the E doesn't even come close.

I do miss some of the ergonomic things about the E's that the V1 does not have and will probably never have, but look at this way - V1 is pure performance....

I voted for the V1, but if escort gets the 9500i true lock fixed, sat radio fixed from the factory, and finally the ramp up problem fixed I'd go back in a heart beat.

I voted V1 for the following reason.
I know all of the flase in my area. This means that if i know a flase i don't need a store function since i know a flase in there. What the prooblem is, is that when i am driving in an area i don't know and i get an alert that might be a flase the 9500i goes off just as the V1 would. What i am trying to say is that the 9500i doesn't help reduce flases it just learns the flases you already know. There is one benifit which is a more quite ride but i'm looking for better detection over that. (at least i am now)
