I bought an X50 last weekend and just wanted to give my observation over the last week. It replaced my trusty 4600. There are some differences between the 2.
On the 1st drive I passed an area that I always picked up a false on the 4600. I thought hmmm cool better filtering through the false.
I then drove to work the next day. My main drive to work is about 10 miles with most of it open highway but plenty of spots for cops to hide. I crested a hill where there is a shopping center. The highway runs between 2 shopping centers headed east on the right is a grocery store on the left is a home depot. Now driving with the 4600 I would get on beep for the doors of the grocery store. The X50 gave 3-4 more. On the way back it really picks up the home depot doors. Which is a concern as this is a strech where they like to hang out.
I went several days before picking up actual radar. 1st time was a 3 lane urban setting. The cop left the radar on. The X50 seemed to pick the officer of at least 3-4 blocks away. This is only a guesstimation as I was at a stop sign.
I had a pretty good experience yesterday. I crested a hill on the highway headed back home. I got one bar on K band and this is an area where I know there are no falses. If the detectors going off someone's watching. I kept getting 1-2 bars on K for a couple of miles. Finally drove by the culprit our local yokels in a Mustang had someone pulled over. So I guess I got the hit and it followed him. What's great is I had a feeling that he was there because the X50 picked him up on the way out several hours earlier.
Rear sensing seems to be stellar although I have don't have it placed for optimum rear detection. I passed a motorcycle cop chatting with another cyclist. He had his radar on, I continued to pick him up for at least 1/2 mile then the intensity began to pick up. He had gotten up and was headed in my direction
So far I have been very impressed with the unit. It certainly seems to be a great upgrade from the 4600. I have it setup on auto right now. Going to have to learn more about programing the unit. I guess with a little more tweaking me and the 8500x50 become good friends.
