Default Opinion on PNI Zodiac II

    Hi all

I've been lurking around here for a while, and finally have a question to ask.

Does anyone have an opinion or real world experience wit the PNI Zodiac II? Reason I ask is that I just picked up one at a good price for use at work exclusively (hence why I didn't want to spend the $$$ on a V1, etc), and I would like to have some sort of an idea as to what sort of range I can expect from it.

    Thanks in advance.

Don't go cordless unless if necessary,

How much money are you willing to spend on a detector?

For my own vehicle, I go for the best. But for work, I want to stay in the $100 range (or less if possible) mainly because I'm in and out of the vehicle often. If the unit would walk away, I don't want to be out too much.

I don't travel at bat out of hell speeds at work, mainly because of the condition of the vehicles. But I'm at a consistent 15-20 over the limit, travelling on all Long Island state parkways and the LIE.

I'm pretty sure that the Zodiac is not a cordless.

Sorry man but ont eh LI parkways and the LIEs a detector will not help you much and the cheap ones stink! LIparkways are patroled by the NY troopers which either use Ka or Laser so you would need a decent detector to get a good Ka warning. The kicker is the NY troopers never seem to run their radar they wait fro an idiot to blow by them then they pull out of hiding flip on the radar and get you speeding then pull you over. Suffolk county cops use laser, Ka and K, and most of the time on the LIE they use laser so a detector is little help....On Long Island at least Suffolk county, detectors are useless cause SCPD doesn't focus on speeding.

LIE you can get away with 15-20 over and on the parkways you can get up to 10-15 over

thought it was most of the PNI units that are recent are cordless, i would go with the Cobra 9700 instead of the PNI

The 9700 is a respectable unit, but you need to slow as soon as it starts going off. Also, it's not recommended if you need POP protection. Otherwise, it seems to be an excelent value.

not really needed in NY cause you hardly ever run into any radar traps...cops are payed so well they don't need tyo ticket people probably a reason why NY drivers are so careless

Thanks for the advice guys. On and off the dash isn't possible for me at times--mainly due to me forgetting to do so. But I'll take any protection that I can get.

Last time I was nailed was for a doozy--clocked at 101 by the NYSP on the NSP in Happague six years ago at 2am. All the drama that went with that was enough to keep me at more reasonable speeds.
