I was also wondering if the shielding of the STi also provided for a safer environment. There seem to be warnings nowadays about radio emissions.

I find it is a pretty quiet RD with low false alarms. If you don't have to worry about X band you can turn it off and it is VERY quiet. At least under my driving conditions.

It's a very good RD, with the exception it has some issues with Ka @33.8 and poor ramp up. Otherwise imo (just how I feel) it is the 2nd best RD on the market.

If you don't need a stealth radar detector then the RX65 will fit your needs.

Since you are new you might not know this. The STi's biggest advantage is that it is undetectable by radar detector detectors. This is very important for people that live in areas that have made radar detectors illegal.

It is also a very good unit overall. Currently there is no rock solid #1 detector. You have the V1, X50, Rx65, STI, and 9500i all battling for the top place.

I think if you are new to this and are in a place that allows detectors then get an X50 or Rx65.

To the people that live in the outlaw states/provinces then the STI is well worth the money.

I definately think the STI is worth it ESPECIALLY in an area where RD's are illegal just ask Fakejamal who uses an STI because RD's are illegal in Virginia

If you live in an area where RD's are banned, and the Police use the Spectre (or VG2) then the STI is worth every penny.......... :wink:

What happens to the radar detector if found in a state that doesn't like them? I do understand that there are fines.
