Default POP IN PLNO TEXAS? Officer says......

Today I was working and went up to talk to an officer that was doing something on the computer Anyway I could clearly see the stalker DSR 3 window LED display. It's the remote one that you can mount any where. I said to him that I do radar detector testing and just wanted to see what units they used. Here is what he had to say. Sorry didn't have the recorder on me.

The Plano Police department (just north of Dallas) uses stalker however they were in need of some more units and put two bids in to both companies. The winning bid went to MPH. But he said the chief declined the pop mode units. I said to him yeah it just shows a speed for a split second and you can't lock it. He said that it doesn't matter. That he does not have to lock the speed. So, for now they will not have the pop mode and that is good news. Bad news if they did he sure is under the impression that he can right a ticket just based on pop mode and he might be right.

    exactly.

and how many people, when pulled over for speeding and the cop says he got you at 10 over, are going to say "did you get me with POP?"

Well what I think is that an officer that is going to use pop mode is going to write a ticket for what he sees. Even if it is for a split second it is good enough. Who is the judge going to believe me or him. Most of the time the officer.

I was actually surprised he knew what pop was. I never mentioned one thing about POP. They don't even use those guns.

In the manuals (at least for the MPH Bee III), there is a notation in there for officers not to write a citation based on the POP burst alone. POP is known to be innacturate depending on distance and cosign because of the nature of how the gun operates.

Very true, but this could be handy for someone if they took it to court. If they can prove that that's what it says, they may be able to get aquitted.
